Shusterman, Neal
Lief. As the boy could no longer remember his name they gave him the name of Lief. The name was chosen because he had spent the last 100 years "living" in the trees.
The McGill. Lief is scared to leave his forest as he has heard terrible things about the McGill and what it can do to people.
Mary Queen of Snots. Mary took charge of all the "Afterlights" that she came across, thus the nickname of Mary Queen of Snots was somewhat applicable.
The Twin Towers. Apparently all things that are truly loved, or that have a lasting impression on the living side of the world can cross over to Everlost. Thus the Twin Towers are present in Everlost and provide a safe haven for the children.
You sink to the center of the Earth. The Afterlights learn that they are only able to stay for long periods of time in places where something has died. If they do not keep moving they will sink into the center of the Earth and remain there forever.
The Haunter. The Haunter turns out to be practicing dark magic, but he has found ways to communicate and participate with the living world. He gets Nick and Lief to try to move a rock from the living world and when they are unable to he seals them in pickle barrels. He says that he will only release them if Allie agrees to study with him for five years.
Train and the Hindenburg. Mary travels with Nick and Vari to reach Allie and the McGill. They board a train first and are able to travel along dead tracks until they reach Lakehurst. Once there they meet up with a friend, Speedo, who is able to fly them the rest of the way on the Hindenburg.
Mikey McGill. Mikey and Megan McGill died when they jumped though an empty train car and were hit by another train. Mikey fell to the center of the Earth and the only way he was able to get out was to lose his humanity and to make himself into a monster that could do anything. Thus he became the McGill, the most fearsome monster of Everlost.
