Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Smith, E. E. 'Doc'
In a mental contact between the Eddorian Innermost Council and an Arisian student.. A young student from Arisia was exploring the galaxy by the power of mind when his presence was detected by the Eddorian council.
The Arisian Elders caused the Eddorians to forget the encounter.. There are six more books in the series.
It took the combined powers of the Elders to make the Eddorians to forget; they would require lots of time to develop the required weapon to actually destroy them!
Earth, Rigel IV, Velantia III and Palain VII.. All the planets in the answers are found in the novels of E. E. 'Doc' Smith.
Gharlane. Only Gharlane is a character from E. E. 'Doc' Smith
Atlantis. The mythical civilisation of Atlantis was the target of Eddore's ire.
Phryges. We meet Kinnexa later. Unfortunately, Kolanides has already been eliminated.
They would steal a Norheim plane and crash it into the missile as it launched.. Neither Phryges or Kinnexa would shirk the ultimate sacrifice when called upon to make it.
A Norheim missile exploded in the sea on a geological fault, sinking it with the resulting quakes and tsunami.. Atlantis being destroyed by earthquake is a common feature of the myths surrounding this ancient continent. E.E. Doc Smith's Atlantis is probably one of the higher tech versions.
Visualising the Cosmic All. The Arisians believed that any truly competent mind was capable of deriving all that is to be known about the universe from only a few initial facts.
These stories were written well before chaos theory gained any popularity.
Rome. Republican Rome attracted the ire of Eddore. Egyptian civilisation did not attract any attention from Eddore, probably because it was so stratified.
Western civilisation. We're into the twentieth century now and and it took three wars to knock Western civilisation down. E.E. Smith posited an all-out nuclear war in an unnamed year for the final stand.
In this modern era part of the book, 'The World War', we first meet a family that would be pivotal to the rest of the series. What is the name of this family? | 'Triplanetary' by E.E. Doc Smith.
|
Kinnison. During the centuries between the final war of the Western Century and the establishment of the next civilisation, no Kinnison married a girl with red-bronze-auburn hair and gold-flecked tawny eyes.
On board the Interplanetary liner Hyperion. Costigan doesn't really have a place he can call home.
His dance partner collapses from a gas attack just before he would.. Costigan's partner was a slight girl and so was easily affected by the gas.
Clio. All the women above are to be found in the Lensverse.
Grey Roger. Grey Roger was alleged to be an adept of the North Polar Jovian mystics.
A Nevian starship. The Nevians had arrived from well outside the Solar System in search of iron, which was very rare on their home world.
The Boise. The Boise is the Triplanetary Service's test bed ship and had been deadly to work on.
Clio Marsden and Captain Bradley. Costigan is deeply in love with the beautiful Clio, but he's an old fashioned hero and so doesn't take advantage of their situation.
The contents of safe deposit box N469T414. Although Samms mentions all of these people or things, it's the presence of the safe deposit box that lets him bluff out Morgan.
As Morgan is pushing to gain access to Triplanetary's files, Samms pushes back with the above tidbits.
After failing to escape from their captors, what happened to Costigan and his colleagues when they were returned to the aliens' home world? | 'Triplanetary' by E.E. Doc Smith.

After scientific study, they were put on public show.. The trio were studied extensively until they couldn't take it any longer then they were put on show in different cities. They were informed there was little chance of them returning home.
Ever!
Under the guise of playing chemist, he devised a poison gas.. E. E. 'Doc' Smith was a chemist as well as being a science fiction author so his hero had to know enough about the subject to get himself and his colleagues out of the hole they were in.
No real hero could just sit there regardless as to how hopeless the situation seemed.
A golden meteor. The members of the Service all had a golden meteor that also gave off a special signal when touched. Unfortunately, they were beginning to be copied...
Pittsburgh. If you want iron, there are few better place than Pittsburgh I guess.
Grey Roger. The Boise finds Roger and the surviving members of his crew.
Grey Roger is an entity formed by Gharlane of Eddore, who is second in Council. However, the Terrans don't even suspect the presence of Eddore for centuries to come.
Nels Bergenholm. Surely one of the more abrupt starts to any of my books. Bergenholm is shot seven times to little effect.
Gharlane of Eddore. Gharlane of Eddore had activated a form of flesh that could survive in Earth's unnatural surroundings.
All of these (The provision of a method of perfect communication, A way of identifying the good guys, A device impossible to duplicate). While everyone of Terran stock knew what the meteor of the Patrol was, this device was duplicable. A Rigellian or Pallainian would not have recognised it.
No. In fact, up to that point in time, Arisia was thought to be the home base of the pirates seeing as no ship of Civilisation could go there and back to report.
Rod Kinnison. All would eventually make their own trips to Arisia but it was Rod who went with Samms.
The receipt of the Lens. The Lens was all that Samms could have hoped for. It would prove to be a perfect translator (within limits), it was unique, and it killed anybody except the person it was made for.
