191. This page tells how a virus' instinct is to reproduce, and how it will usurp other structures to do this. This leads Asakawa to the solution that he needs to copy the tape and spread the "virus" in order to save his family.
9:49 pm. Mai tells Asakawa that Ryuji called her that night, at around 9:30, and he died at around 10 pm, of sudden heart failure. Asakawa was not expecting this news, as he thought the curse was broken, and Ryuji, Shizu, and Yoko were safe.

Mai. Mai was a student of Ryuji's, with whom he was in love. He did not call Asakawa directly, because he didn't know whereabouts in Oshima he was.
12 . Takashi was Shizuko's cousin. He cared for Sadako until she was three, then again from age 9 to age 18. Takashi loved Sadako very much, and it was he who collected her remains from Asakawa.

The old lady's speech. The old lady says "Next year you're going to have a child", but Sadako could not have children. Asakawa wonders if the comment was aimed at Shizuko, but as the whole video was created from Sadako's point of view, Ryuji thought this was unlikely.
Grey skirt, white blouse. Dr Nagao recalls her outfit when he talks to Asakawa and Ryuji; how he pulled up her white blouse, and how she was brushing dust off her grey skirt before the attack.
5 years. Dr Nagao worked with Tuberculosis patients from 1962 to 1967, and while he was there he became the last recorded person in Japan to contract smallpox. He now runs a private practice in Atami.
4 months. Sadako was 7 when her brother was born, and she formed a very strong bond with him instantly. He died in 1954, and Sadako was devastated.

Shigemori. Shin is an actor who is studying in the theatre company in the present day. Arima is the man who talks to Yoshino, and tells him how he saw Sadako experimenting with the unplugged television. Uchimara is the current leader of the company. Shigemori was the founder of the company. He found Sadako very attractive, and boasted about surprising her in her home at night. The next day he suddenly died in his chair.
7. Hayatso is a correspondent of Asakawa's, who used to work for the "Daily News", and who now works on all seven islands in the Izu island chain. Asakawa and Ryuji meet him on Oshima, and he also mentions Nijima, Shikinejima, and Kozushima.
5 . These occur in the "real" scenes, according to Ryuji's chart, i.e. the scenes which Sadako actually saw, rather than thought. The instances of darkness relate to Sadako blinking.
Smokes a cigarette. Asakawa promised his wife that he would not smoke inside the house again after Yoko was born, and he never has. He feels he can't do anything against his wife's wishes, because she gave him their beautiful daughter.
Philosophy. Ryuji is an expert in paranormal psychology, but he is a professor of philosophy at Fukuzawa University. Asakawa states that Ryuji's brain is "wired like a scientist's".

Mosquito repellent. The tape shows a message at the end, telling the viewer how to break the curse, but this crucial part of the message cuts away to the two scenes described above. It then cuts back to the video as the lettering fades into nothing.
Under the piano. Asakawa actually found the card in the pocket of one of Tomoko's outfits, but he didn't want Yoshimi to know he had been rummaging in her daughter's things. He showed her the card in order to gauge her reaction, but Yoshimi did not recognise it.

A shipwreck. The shipwreck occured near Yokosuka, and was deemed a more important story than the mysterious deaths. Yoshino's story had to be cut down in order to make room.

10 million. This worked out at about one tenth of the population of Japan reporting supernatural sightings. Oguri is wary about allowing Asakawa to carry out his investigations into the mysterious deaths in case it triggers a similar boom.
Nearly 20 years. Kimura witnessed the death of Tomoko's friend, Shuichi Iwata, while driving his taxi. Asakawa's chance encounter with Kimura triggers the whole chain of events.
She can't understand how it got into the room.. Tomoko was doing her homework at the end of the summer holidays. Japan is in the middle of a heatwave, and Tomoko regrets not completing the work earlier. When the fly disturbs Tomoko, she realises she is thirsty, and goes downstairs to the kitchen, where she is killed.
