The Regulators
What coloured van is the first to drive down Poplar Street? | The Regulators
|
Red. In the beginning of the story, a red van with a revolving satellite dish drives down Poplar Street and shoots Cary Ripton the newspaper deliveryboy and Hannibal the dog before disappearing. The shot that killed Hannibal was initially meant for the Carver kids, Ellie and Ralph (and Cynthia Smith as well), but Hannibal ran in front of the red van in order to chase the newspaper dropped from Ripton's hand.
Mary Jackson's. Upon returning home after cheating on her husband Peter, Mary drives down Poplar Street wondering why everyone is crowding on Collie Entragian's lawn (though it's to cover Ripton's body with a tarp). While surveying the scene, Mary is rammed into by the yellow van and pushed onto Tom Billingsley's lawn. When she gets out of the car, she's shot in the head by the drivers of a red van. At the same time, a shotgun blast tears through David Carver on his lawn. Meanwhile, none of the residents of Poplar Street can get through to 911 on the phones.
Janice. Audrey is forced to spend her time with Seth, the autistic child housing Tak. After returning from the town of Desperation, Seth has had an unnatural force inside of him which is controlling not only Audrey, but those attacking Poplar Street.
Meanwhile, one half of the street has to deal with the loss of Marielle Soderson's arm and the death of Mary Jackson while Johnny Marinville and Brad Josephson discover that the red-headed girl has been shot and basically killed.
No Face. The beings which arrive on Poplar Street to kill the residents have taken the forms of characters from the kids TV show "MotoKops 2000". Although No Face is among them, No Face is not actually an ally to the band of superheroes (as shown in the copy of a script found within the book. When the group drives six vans (two by three) onto Poplar Street, one of their bullets hits an object in the Carver household causing shrapnel to blind Pie Carver. She later dies in the living room of her house. Meanwhile, Brad and Marinville retrieve a gun from the top floor of the Carver house while Audrey Wyler attempts to discover a way to keep Tak from harming her and Seth.
What is not one of the odd things that happens to Poplar Street? | The Regulators
|
The sidewalks turn into wood-planked paths. After Kristen dies of her wounds, Marinville gives the David Carver's gun to the twins, Dave and Jim Reed and they all head for the relatively unknown path between Poplar Street and an abandoned warehouse on Anderson Street. On the other side of the street, Collie and Steve head across the properties when the coast is clear to find safety. Peter Jackson, who went to hold his dead wife on Poplar Street was led against his will to the Wyler house where Tak took control of his mind. He was sent off to the path between Poplar Street and Anderson Street to wait for a 'friend'.
Jim Reed. Collie and Steve head down the path to Anderson Street, but turn around when they realize that the area is changing into a large desert. While running back they are chased by a wildcat-like creature. By coincidence, Johnny Marinville and Jim and David Reed are taking the same path. In the dark, Jim is unable to see who's coming and he shoots Collie and kills him. He then turns the gun on his own head before anyone can stop him. Soon, Cammie, Brad and Cynthia show up and watch as the zombie-like Peter Jackson walks off to meet his 'friend'.
According to Audrey Wyler's journal, what does SLB stand for? | The Regulators
|
Stalky Little Boy. With excerpts of Audrey Wyler's journal, it's easy to see how the spirit within Seth grew. The young Hobart boy stole Seth's (Tak's) Dream Floater from him and after a long search (as well as punishment to Audrey and Herb), Hugh Hobart returned the toy. Over the next weeks though, the Hobarts had their car and house vandalized and their cat killed. Also, Irene Hobart's nose condition grew worse and she was forced to go to the hospital. Luckily, the Hobarts escaped the madness by moving away.
In the present time, Audrey is on her way to help the others escape Tak, the MotoKops, and Poplar Street.
Nevada. Although more about the China Pit is explained in "Desperation", this story also features a bit of this spooky place. According to the letter left by Allen Symes, the Garins visited the mines because Seth spoke full sentences in order for them to stop. He took them out on the ATV when Seth pointed to pictures showing the China Pit and Seth ran into the recently opened Rattlesnake Mine which collapsed many years before killing Chinese workers. Mr. Garin and Symes went into the mine and pulled him back out, but the Garins were killed in a drive-by shooting when they returned home. Seth went to live with Herb and Audrey on Poplar Street after this. If you've read "Desperation", then you can be sure that it was at this point that Tak hitched a ride in Seth's body.
What structure do the residents of Poplar Street hide in during the final drive-by of the Power Wagons? | The Regulators
|
The Carver House. After Gary Soderson is killed by a deformed version of a gila monster, the remaining residents hide out in the Carver household while Audrey tells the others some of what she knows. Ironically, the owners of the house were killed by the Motokops earlier. Soon, the Power Wagons return for their final raid and destroy nearly every house on the street. Fed up, Kim Gellar goes outside to shoo the Motokops away, but it's clearly a bad idea and she's blown to dust. Luckily, Audrey Wyler's secret plan works and while the Motokops are blasting the house to bits, the gunfire diminishes.
Cammie Reed. Audrey's plan to have Tak leave Seth worked- she poured Ex-Lax into his chocolate milk and Tak evacuated the body. While they crossed the street to the house to retrieve Seth, Cammie Reed picked up the gun from the Carver house and went over to kill Seth to stop the madness. Seth instead used his mind power to make Cammie shoot himself and Audrey while Tak tried to infiltrate Cammie's mind instead. Tak couldn't do this though, and he killed Cammie in the process. After this, Poplar Street returned to its regular form and the police arrived. Only the remaining residents of Poplar Street ever knew what happened with the Regulators.
