The Stand
June. It is June 16th when Charles Campion drives out of the base---carrying the virus with him across the country.
Arnette. We first meet Stu Redman when he is sitting in the gas station outside of Arnette, TX. Campion and his wife and baby come crashing into the pumps.
Frannie. After Stu we are introduced to Frannie...she is meeting Jess out on the pier to tell him her 'surprise'

Wayne . Wayne Stukey saves Larry's butt from the dealer who is looking for him and all the leeches who are sucking him dry. Larry doesn't know it at first, but eventually realizes Wayne did him a great favor.
New York. Larry goes home to NY. He ends up at his Mother's doorstep. This is the beginning of Larry's personal evolution that we witness throughout his journey.
his ring. Ray Booth is wearing a large Signet Ring that Nick can't help but notice everytime Ray punches him in the face.
John . Sheriff John Baker takes a shine to Nick and so does his wife, Jane. Nick ends up watching them both suffer and die from the super flu.

Vermont . They take him to the Center for Disease Control in Stovington Vermont. Stu is the last person alive there when Elder comes to finish him off. Stu manages to escape and runs out into the Vermont night.
in his garden. Frannie's father, Peter, loved his garden and spent hours working in it. Frannie labored very hard to bury him there.
mowing the lawn and crying. Harold is running behind a push mower and crying uncontrollably. When Frannie sees him he gets embarrassed and runs in the house.
Ogunquit. Frannie and Harold are from Ogunquit. They both end up surviving the flu and are the only ones left in their small town. They soon set out to the disease control center in Stovington Vermont to see if anyone else is alive and if they have found a cure for the flu.
cowboy boots. 'the worn heels of his sharp-toed cowboy boots clocking along the pavement' Soon the survivors are dreaming about Flagg and this sound echoes in their minds.
Amy. Amy Lauder was Harold's sister and one of Frannie's best friends. Harold always felt like Amy was perfect and loved and he was inferior and not as loved by his family.
Joe . At first Joe wants to hurt Larry because he is afraid of him. After Larry plays the guitar Joe starts to warm up. Later on when Joe meets Mother Abigail he finally blurts out his real name which is Leo Rockway
M-O-O-N. Tom has the mentality of a four year old. He spells everything M-O-O-N and says 'Law's Yes' all the time. The irony is that Tom can't read and Nick can't speak. How can Nick communicate with Tom when he can't read what Nick writes?
Julie . Julie Lawry is not a very nice girl and later on she causes an awful lot of grief.
white streak in black hair. Nadine has jet black hair with one thin strand of pure white running through it. When Flagg gets done with her all of her hair is totally white.

Glen . Glen decides to go along with Stu and Fran and Harold instead of staying all alone with his dog, Kojak, ...one of the only dogs who survived the flu.
Hemingford Home. Everyone is dreaming about Hemingford Home, her porch, the corn, and the tire swing. Mother knows they are coming and she knows she'll not die in her little house afterall.
Grange Hall. Abby got up and played and sang in front of the whole town. She was the first black woman to take that stage and she was terrified. She sang several songs and brought the house down.
Donald . Poor Donald...he is such a troubled boy. Just the kind of guy Flagg can put to good use.
Free Zone . Ralph starts calling Boulder the Free Zone or the Boulder Free Zone when he talks to everyone on the CB radio. When they all get together and start re-building the society they continue to call it that.
because she feels she has sinned and needs to redeem herself. Mother thinks her pride is a sin and the only way she will be able to hear God again is if she goes out alone and redeems herself in His eyes.
a chocolate thumbprint. Fran finds a chocolate thumbprint on one page and begins to fear that Harold is up to no good. She should tell someone!
the cellar door is open in the kitchen. Frannie was so careful to push the chair back from the wall after she climbed out the window...but she left the cellar door open in the kitchen! Harold saw that first, went downstairs to the cellar and then saw the foot print Fran left under the window. He started looking for shoes with that pattern on the bottom.
Dick Ellis. Dick Ellis is a country vet who ends up being the village doctor for awhile. He and a nurse named Laurie Constable are the only people with any medical knowledge...until a 'real' doctor comes in later on.
MGM Grand. Flagg and his core group are all staying at the MGM Grand. Flagg is up in the penthouse.
Tom Cullen . Nick believes he can hypnotize Tom well enough to send him over as a spy. He's right, but he no one thought for a minute about a certain woman scorned who might want to hurt Tom and Nick.
Dayna. The ironic thing is that Dayna is a lesbian. She winds up sleeping with Flagg's right hand man...she's no dummy!
