The Tommyknockers
All of the above. (They started losing their teeth., They could read each others' minds., They started making inventions.). Many of the town people made things that were to be used to hurt other people, but some of the inventions were made to improve how people lived.
Beagle. Peter is instantly afraid of the thing that Bobbi discovers in the woods - and rightly so! If Bobbie had heeded Peter's warning this would have been a very short story indeed ...

In a skiing accident. Thanks to a skiing accident in his teens, Gardener has some immunity to the poisoned air and the townspeople find it difficult to read his mind. Ev Hillman also has a metal plate in his head, as a result of a World War II injury. Other characters with 'metalwork' are also able to enter the town in relative safety.
Patricia McCardle. McCardle despises Gardener, but signs him onto the tour at the last minute to replace Bill Claughtsworth (who committed suicide). Despite the best efforts of his friend and fellow poet, Ron Cummings, Gardener disgraces himself at an after-reading party hosted by Professor Arberg.
Haven. The town had four other names before it became Haven: Montville Plantation, Coodersville, Montgomery and Ilium.

Freeman Moss. After his 'becoming', Freeman is determined to eliminate Gardener to save the ship, even though he had liked him. Benton Rhodes is one of the unfortunate policemen who try to enter the town to investigate the explosion at the town hall. Beach Jernigan runs the town restaurant. Frank Spruce is a local farmer, but not the one who offers Gardener a lift.
After discovering he is cheating on her, 'Becka Paulson kills her husband, Joe, by modifying the Sony TV so he is electrocuted when he turns it on. Jesus. Jesus tells 'Becka secrets about many of the townspeople. At the last moment, she realises it was all in her mind and tries to save Joe, only to be electrocuted herself.
When Hilly Brown holds his second Gala Magic Show, he uses a gadget the Tommyknockers have helped him to invent to make his younger brother, David, disappear. The Dead Zone. A bartender tells Ev that Bright had reported the story of John Smith who awoke from a coma with a psychic gift. According to the bartender, Bright "believed Smith had the sight."

He returns home and shoots himself. Butch had gone into Bobbi's shed, but very little of him came out again. His memory was wiped and replaced with the drive to write a suicide note and shoot himself. Ev ends up as a kind of human battery in Bobbi's shed, along with her sister, Anne, and dog, Peter.

A Coke machine. All these items had been inventively modified. The brush-trimmer spelled the end for Lester Moran: a fire-freak who thought his luck was in when he happened upon the forest fire. He was able to enter the town when the fire department could not because of the metal plate in his skull received as a result of a childhood car accident.
Leandro had rented a flat-pack oxygen supply which enabled him to enter the town and meet his gruesome end.
