Weiner, Jennifer
Philadelphia Examiner. Cannie is the entertainment reporter for the "Philadelphia Examiner". She also writes a screenplay that producers decide to make into a movie.
Bruce. Cannie broke up with Bruce because she didn't think he was the one for her. However, she then started to have doubts about her decision, and decided she wanted to get back together with him. Eventually, she moved on without him.
Moxie. Bruce writes the "Good in Bed" column for "Moxie" magazine. One of his articles is titled "Loving a Larger Woman". When Cannie sees this article she is very angry and upset. At the end of the book, Cannie writes an article for the "Good in Bed" column.
Nifkin. Cannie got Nifkin from some friends who had adopted him from the pound. The friends thought Nifkin was a Doberman Pinscher puppy at first, but he was just a funny looking little dog. When Cannie got him, she tried changing his name, but he would not answer to anything else.
Tanya. At the age of 56, Cannie's mother announced that she was gay. Cannie and her siblings do not like Tanya at all.
Joy. Her full name is Joy Leah Shapiro. Cannie named her Joy because that is what she brings to her life. Leah is for Bruce's father, Leonard.
Maxi. Cannie meets Maxi Ryder when she goes to New York to interview her. They become good friends, and Maxi is the one who gets Cannie's screenplay sold. Samantha is Cannie's best friend in Philadelphia, Gabby is a coworker, and Lucy is Cannie's sister.
Yes. Cannie's father is a plastic surgeon in California. When she is out there with Maxi, Cannie goes to his office, but he won't even talk to her- he just walks out of the room.
Peter. Peter is a doctor at the weight loss center where Cannie goes. After she becomes pregnant, she can no longer participate in the study. They become friends and then fall in love. At the end of the book, Peter is about to propose to Cannie. Thanks for taking my quiz!

76ers. Richard Towne played basketball for the Philadelphia 76ers. The novel takes place in Philadelphia. At the beginning of the novel, Ayinde and Richard have just moved to Pennsylvania from Texas.
Lisa. Lisa Urick changed her name to Lia Frederick when she moved to California. She just dropped the 's' from her first name and Frederick was her father's name.
Lemon. Kelly and Steven Day have a golden retriever named Lemon. They bought him from a breeder.
a Christmas tree and stocking for the baby. Becky's mother-in-law, Mimi, sent Ava a stocking and a bib that said "My First Christmas" on it. She also had a Christmas tree sent to the house. Becky and Andrew don't celebrate Christmas because they are Jewish. Mimi finds that inane because she is Jewish too and considers Christmas a secular national holiday. This is when Becky finally yells at Mimi.
Lia. Lia's baby, Caleb, died of SIDS. Lia couldn't handle it, and that is what caused her to move from California back to Philadelphia.
He had a hole in his heart.. Ayinde and Richard took him to a pediatric cardiologist, and luckily, it was a small hole that the doctor said should repair itself.
None of them got divorced. Kelly and Steve separated, but they had worked everything out by the end.
Becky. Becky and Andrew were expecting another child at the end of the novel. The second child would only be 15 months younger than Ava.
Tiffany. Tiffany was twenty-one years old and a spirit dancer for the Phoenix expansion team. She came to visit Ayinde and say she was sorry.
high school reunion. Maggie was at her 10 year high school reunion (class of 1989), when she got so drunk that she was making out with a guy in the bathroom. She could not even remember if his name was Tad or Ted. He turned out to be Todd.
Princeton. Rose getting into Princeton was one of the few things that Sydelle praised Rose for. She even made her her favorite meal and didn't make any comments when Rose had seconds. Rose went to The University of Pennsylvania for law school.
