Yes. Howard was brought before a congressional committee as a war profiteer, because he wouldn't submit to Senator Brewster's blackmailing. At the request of Pan Am's Juan Trippe, Senator Brewster had asked Howard to sell TWA to Trippe, or risk having his personal and financial troubles exposed at the hearings. Howard managed to pull himself together and turn the tables on Senator Brewster, thereby defeating Juan Trippe. Howard assured the committee that his plane would fly, and went on to prove it.
