Is "Balto" based on a true story? | Balto
Yes. It's based on a true story from 1925, when an outbreak of diphtheria threatened the children of Nome, Alaska. Balto's story inspired the Iditarod dog sled race.
What are the races for?
| Balto
all of these (to see who's quickest, to see who's fastest, to see whose team goes for the medicine). The fastest team was the one chosen to go after the medicine. I read a book about Balto and a book called "Akiak". They're both about dog races, in particular the Iditarod. The Iditarod is an annual dog sled race in Alaska. I like both stories but the one about Balto is my favorite.
What color is Balto? | Balto
grey and white. He has a grey outer coat and a white undercoat. For an animated creature, he is really beautiful. While dogs can be any of the colors mentioned, most wolves have black, gray or white fur. In the movie, Balto's voice is provided by Kevin Bacon. My mom says he is in a movie called "Footloose".
In the movie, did Balto see his mom in the wind? | Balto
Yes. Balto was sad and missing his mother. When he started thinking of her, she appeared to him in the wind. We realize Balto is half-wolf when he sees his mother in the wind. The other "woman" in Balto's life, Jenna, is voiced by Bridget Fonda. She is the daughter of Peter Fonda and the granddaughter of Henry Fonda.
What kind of animal was Balto's father? | Balto
dog. Balto is half-dog and half-wolf. His dad was a stray dog and his mom was a wolf. Someone shot his mother because she was a wolf. When Dad came back from searching for food, someone mistook him for a wild dog and shot him too. Then they discovered puppy Balto and took pity on him.
In the beginning of the movie, what was Grandma Rosie looking for? | Balto
Balto's statue. Rosie is one of the kids who the medicine saved. The statue was erected in memory of Balto after he died. The movie is actually a flashback, telling the story of the great Balto. Grandma Rosie's voice is provided by Miriam Margolyes. Ms. Margolyes was Professor Sprout in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets".
What does Grandma Rosie say to Balto's statue when they leave? | Balto
"I would have been lost without you.". Yes, without Balto many children would have died, including Rosie. She was thanking him for saving her life. Even though this is a cartoon, it is a really good movie with a really good plot. I recommend it for kids and adults.
