|What did Sam, and the rest of the people, in the library throw into the fireplace to keep warm?||The Day After Tomorrow
books. They threw books into the fire to keep the cold out and stay warm. In the movie, Brian said, "Hey guys there is a whole section of tax law books we can burn.". This was one of the more funny parts in the movie.
|What was Jack's main method of transportation when going to New York City to rescue Sam? ||The Day After Tomorrow
walking. Jack started out driving, but the weather got so bad that he couldn't see, and ended up driving into a ditch. He walked the rest of the way along with two of his friends who also went along.
a hospital. Although Lucy mostly helped children with cancer, she just worked in a hospital. She was stuck in the hospital when the weather was bad but wouldn't leave because a little boy with cancer couldn't leave without an ambulance, and there was not one available.

library. Jack Hall told Sam to stay inside the library and not to go outside- that he would come to get him. Sam had walked down to the main floor, which was nearly underwater. Sam was smart enough to know that pay phones will work, even in tough weather conditions, because of the way phone towers work.
tornadoes. The first sign of the changes were tornadoes in Los Angeles. The very first weather change was in Antarctica but that was the cause, not a weather occurrence. The next was hail falling from the sky in Tokyo.
Laura. Laura is the reason why Sam joined the competition, because he wanted to be around her. He tells her this later in the film. Laura was very surprised and happy.
Sam. Jake Gyllenhaal is my favorite actor, he plays Sam who is the son of Jack and Dr. Lucy Hall. Sam has joined a team that competes in a scholastic competition in New York City, and that is where he is during all the weather changes.

a raft. While Sam and J.D. were gathering food, Brian was in the kitchen searching around, he opened up a coboard and a raft popped out, Sam said, "We can use it to bring the food in."
"A wall of water" ("An ocean city", "A hurrican of water", "New York Ocean"). There was a bus driver, that was trying to get his radio to work, and there was a voice that came on for a brief moment that said, "There is a wall of water heading." Then the bus got washed away by the water.

"Besides this one?". This is my favorite line in the movie, Sam responds with the funny line, "Besides this one?" Laura looks at him in a serious manner. then he replies, "Ok, I was on a trip with my Dad."

7 to 10 days. Jack received pictures of what the world would look like in 2 to 3 days, 5 to 6 days and 7 to 10 days. In 7 to 10 days, the bad weather had covered most of the world.
Bears, wolves, deer. The zoo had bears, dear and wolves, the wolves escaped form the zoo when the weather got really bad, the wolves then came back into the story when wolves wanted to attack Sam, Brian, and J.D.

"Thanks for coming back for me, that was really brave.". Laura was sitting with Sam inside the library when she said this to him, Sam nodded, and Laura said, "I'd better return her purse." Referring to the purse she went back for, that the people in the cab had left.

"Save as many as you can.". Jack Hall was talking to Terry Rapson on the phone, Terry told Jack to "Save as many as you can", Jack responded with, "you need to get out of there." Terry said, "I'm afraid that time has come and gone."
French. The people in the cab spoke French. A policeman told them, "I can't understand what you're saying!" Laura cut her leg and then turned around to help the people in the cab when she heard the policeman.
2 planes and 3 helicopters. When Sam, Laura, Brian and the other people were watching the news, it said that it was too late for two planes that crashed down. Also there were 3 helicopters in a group, that went down one at a time.
Yoda. In fact, in the movie, while Sam was talking to Laura, in the cafeteria, Sam's name tag read, Yoda. In the commentary, the directors said that it was going to be a joke that was going to be played in the scene, but did not end up in the movie.

"Ugg... this smell is unbearable Dad.". Sam was complaining about the smell because the sewage system had backed up. Jack did not think this was funny and told Sam, "Stop joking around Sam. I need you home now!"
Typhoon. In the movie, the researchers announced that Australia had the strongest typhoon ever recorded. This was the beginning of the weather to come.
