Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
|What martial arts expert did Sylvester Stallone originally want to play the part of Simon Phoenix? ||Demolition Man
Jackie Chan. The role of Simon Phoenix was offered to Jackie Chan who turned it down, citing he did not wish to "play a bad guy".
Lori Petty. According to the IMDB website, Lori Petty filmed a few days worth of scenes, and then Sandra Bullock took over.
|Huxley Flub #2: Lt. Huxley tried to utter another common phrase. In this instance it was "Chief, take this job and shove it". Alas, Lt. Huxley used a different word instead of "shove". What was that word?||Demolition Man
|Lt. Huxley, as played by Sandra Bullock, is fascinated with all things 20th century. Working with John Spartan must be a dream come true for her. Unfortunately she hasn't done all of her 20th century research, as she makes some very noticeable flubs with common phrases we use today. For example today you and I might say, "Looks like there's a new sheriff in town". Lt. Huxley said this phrase but substituted "sheriff" with another word. What was that word? ||Demolition Man
Shepherd. Lt. Huxley's name is supposed to pay homage to Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World". That book is now on my "must read list".
|It's fun to view "Demoliton Man" in the 21st Century, especially because you see today's hot actors in bit roles. For example there are Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, Rob Schneider, Denis Leary and even Governor Jesse Ventura. Also acting in this movie is Bob Gunton. Bob Gunton played the part of the Police Chief. Although he may not be a common household name, he did make a big impression in another recent movie as a zealous prison warden who manipulated Andy Dufresne. What movie was this? ||Demolition Man
The Shawshank Redemption. "Shawshank" is one of my all-time favorite movies. Although a bad guy, you have to appreciate Mr. Gunton's ability to convincingly portray a man we all come to loathe.
|One of the unique futuristic changes we are shown, is that of prisoner "rehabilition" during cryo-prison. Prisoners have unique hobbies implanted into them. Rather than go back to their old evil habits, they now have new, more "pc" habits instilled after release. What is John Spartan's new hobby? ||Demolition Man
|In "Demolition Man" we hear word of a franchise war. The winner of this war has all of the restaurants named after it. What is the name of the restaurant that was the victor? ||Demolition Man
Taco Bell. Interestingly enough, the UK version is purported to have Pizza Hut dubbed in over Taco Bell.
|Denis Leary pops up in this movie, playing the leader of an underground (literally) separatist movement. Their crime is that they want to enjoy the things that have suddenly become bad: meat, cigars, etc. What is the perky name of the character Denis Leary portrays? ||Demolition Man
Edgar Friendly. Mr. Friendly's diatribe on the evils that he enjoys is pure Denis Leary.
|What is the name of the character Sylvester Stallone plays?||Demolition Man
Sea shells. The people in the future use a device called the three seashells. When John tries to use it he can't. We never do find out how it works.
Yes. The police officer played by Rob Schneider says this when Simon easily beats up 6 officers. It is near the start when Simon uses the computer to find guns. This is an example of some of the comedy in this movie.
There is no such code. We never hear about code 167 at all. Code 187 is used throughout the movie, and that means murder/death/kill. This is a bit of a trick question.
Teddy bear. During his hearing he says the password, and the cuffs spring open. He proceeds to kill the 2 guards and the warden who are in the room.
He knew the password because he was given all sorts of special gifts in his rehab program, and this password was one of them.
Lethal Weapon 3. There is a poster of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover posing for the "Lethal Weapon 3" movie. It is on the wall to the left of the door. You see it when she first enters her office at the start of the movie.
November 20, 1996. As the camera moves over the "Cryostasis" facility you can see a computer screen that says, "November 20, 1996."
70. We hear this quote as he was going into the "Cryostasis". "Sgt. Spartan you are sentenced to 70 years sub-zero rehabilitation. You will be eligible for parole no earlier than the year 2046."
Simon Phoenix. Wesley Snipes plays Simon Phoenix, a crazed criminal who was put in "Cryoprison" at the same time that Spartan was, for killing people and taking hostages.
John Spartan. Sylvester Stallone plays Sgt. John Spartan, a cop who was put in "Cryoprison" for blowing up a building and killing 30 hostages.
Friendly. The leader of the underground network known as scraps is a man named Edgar Friendly. Dr. Cocteau wants him dead as he is becoming a nuisance to all above ground citizens. He creates an unlikely alliance with John.
Arnold Schwarzenegger. When John and Huxley were driving to Taco Bell, Huxley brings up that Schwarzenegger became president. He had a library named after him, the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library.
Marco Brambilla. I have not heard of Marco Brambilla before but some research showed me he has directed one other movie called "Excess Baggage" (1997).
Taco Bell. After saving Dr. Cocteau's life, John gets invited to dine at Taco Bell. When he questions Huxley about it she tells him that Taco Bell was the only franchise to survive the franchise war. Now all places are Taco Bell.
Frozen and beheaded. In the "Cryofactory" John and Simon have a showdown and John freezes Simon and then swings around and kicks his head off. This is a pretty cool finale.
San Angelus Museum of History. Simon goes into the San Angelus Museum of History and finds all his guns. John tries to stop him, and between the two of them they tear the place apart.
Stun batons. All police carry stun batons, they play quite a big role in the film. These are quite a non-lethal yet powerful weapon. John and Simon resort to using guns anyway.
Simon. John goes under the city to find Simon, but instead he finds Edgar Friendly, and while John is talking to him, Simon sees them both. Simon's mission is to kill both of them, so when he sees them there he exclaims this, and then they have a big shootout.
Rat. John takes a bite out of the burger and then Huxley tells him it's a rat burger. John wants to remember the good old days (because there are no such things as burgers anymore), so he eats it anyway.
Knitting. Every criminal who is released is programmed (brainwashed) to do a particular hobby/craft/sport. John was feeling bad for what he did to Huxley, and in the morning he came out with a sweater for her. He didn't know how he knitted it, it just happened.
