 Departed, The
Martin Scorsese. He also directed "The Aviator", and "Gangs of New York" which Leonardo Dicaprio also starred in. Even though this movie is based on the Hong Kong movie, Scorsese did an excellent job, even though it was quite a bloody movie.
Irish. It was the Irish Mafia that Frank Costello was running. Frank and his group were selling things illegally to other countries which was one reason the police were after him. He also had problems with drugs in the movie.

William Costigan Jr. Billy was his nickname, but we find out his real name when Sullivan is looking up his file on the computer and Costigan tells him that his password is his real name not Billy and Sullivan didn't know that he was Jr.

Madolyn. Madolyn was first with Sullivan and even moves in with him. Then Costigan and her started to have feelings for each other.

The elevator. Sullivan first meets Madolyn in the elevator and then they start to chat. Later they go out on and date and have chemistry with each other. Once they got closer and liked each other more, Madolyn moves in with Sullivan, in his apartment.

She's his shrink. Costigan has Madolyn "the shrink" as his shrink, because he was having trouble sleeping and was really nervous. He was not really into talking to her he just wanted some medicine to make himself feel better. He made her feel really guilty so then she gives him the prescription meds because that was all he really wanted. Later in the movie they hook up.
Mark Wahlberg. Mark Wahlberg also was in "Boogie Nights", "Fear", "The Basketball Diaries", and countless other movies. His part was kind of small, but the ending when he killed Sullivan was my favorite part because it was well filmed and I was glad it was him who killed Sullivan.

Colin Sullivan. It was Colin Sullivan, (Matt Damon) who was the rat. It was really cool when Dignam killed Sullivan and there was a rat on the railing after Sullivan was killed.

Dignam. Dignam (Mark Wahlberg) said this to a camera techie during surveillance of the Chinese microprocessors deal in an old warehouse. Dignam tended to abrasively blame and insult other characters throughout the movie. After the camera guy sarcastically asked Dignam who he was after one of his insults, he responded with this quote, which was also in regard to the camera guy not putting enough cameras in the warehouse and blowing the operation.

Ellerby. Captain Ellerby (Alec Baldwin) delivered this quote when he assigned Sullivan to find the mole inside the police department. Ellerby made this remark because he knew that others in the agency might not approve of Sullivan, due to his "immaculate record". However, Sullivan's career reminded Ellerby of his own career, and the captain decided to give him that assignment. This was ironic since Sullivan had to look for himself, the mole, as he fooled Captain Ellerby and the rest of the police department.

Barrigan. Sullivan had been promoted, and was talking to Barrigan (James Badge Dale) about his lower-level job. Barrigan and Sullivan were classmates at the police academy and exchanged banter like this in the early part of the movie. Sullivan made this comment to make fun of the way that his subordinates were forced to dress (similar to German soldiers), not knowing that Barrigan was also acting under the orders of Costello.
Costello. Costello said this when talking generally about his philosophy as a mob boss and how he became involved in organized crime. Throughout the movie, Costello openly displayed his ruthlessness and inhumanity with quotes like these, and Nicholson delivered them to perfection.

Costigan. Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) yelled this to Captain Queenan (Martin Sheen) when he began to feel the pressure of infiltrating Costello's crime syndicate. Costigan started to think that Costello knew he was the rat, and feared that he would be killed by the mob boss.

Madolyn. She said this during her first psychiatry session with Costigan when he told her that all he wanted from the meeting was Valium. She was involved with both "rats" Costigan and Sullivan, and her tendency for deception was shown with those relationships and in this quote.

Sullivan. Sullivan said this to Costello while Costigan watched them from the back of the theater. Costigan had not seen "the rat" but had followed him, only to lose him in the street. Sullivan may have been having doubts about following his father-figure's orders, and he displayed his need to finish the operation by himself in this quote.
"I am killing you.". After Sullivan said, "Just kill me" in the elevator in their final scene together, Costigan replied with this quote, meaning that he was actually destoying Sullivan's life. This response showed that Costigan wanted to bring down the man that he had been trying to find, and who was ultimately responsible for his death only seconds later. This occurred right before Costigan is unexpectedly shot in the head by Barrigan, who had also infiltrated the Boston police department and was trying to help Sullivan, who ironically killed Barrigan when he turned his back.
Infernal Affairs. Wai Keung Lau is the director of "Infernal Affairs". He has also directed 2 sequels, "Infernal Affairs 2" and "Infernal Affairs 3". "Infernal Affairs" is based on a gang known as the Triads. The Triads are a Hong Kong based gang that have been depicted in several other films and even some videogames.

Astronaut. Agent Dignam makes a wisecrack about Billy that he should be an astronaut not a state patrolman because he scored a 1400 on his SAT's. This is during the first meeting between Queenan, Dignam, and Costigan. Dignam and Queenan are trying to convince Costigan to work undercover because they know his talents would be wasted as a basic patrolman.
Agent Barrigan. Toward the end of the movie Barrigan shoots Costigan on an elevator to help save Sullivan. When Brown hears a gunshot he runs downstairs. Brown sees Costigan's body on the elevator floor, but before he realizes what has happend, Barrigan shoots him too.
Kevin Corrigan. It's Billy's cousin who first helps get him started toward working for Costello by introducing him to Mr. French. Kevin Corrigan was also in "Goodfellas", which is another classic Martin Scorsese film. He played Ray Liota's little brother.

Agent Lazio. Agent Lazio is just a small role. He's sitting next to Sullivan during a meeting where Dignam explains that they have a mole in Costello's crew. Mark, Robert, and Donnie Wahlberg are all brothers, but they've never all acted in a movie together. Both Donnie and Robert worked together on "Southie" and Mark and Robert paired up for this film.

Agent Sullivan. Costello is shot by a stray bullet during a gun fight between his crew and the local police. Costello then calls Sullivan and when the two meet up Costello admits that he's an FBI informant. In order to make sure that he doesn't get caught, Sullivan shoots Costello several times in the chest.
Agent Sullivan. Sullivan shoots Barrigan right after Barrigan kills both Brown and Costigan. Barrigan is another of Costello's moles. However, Barrigan doesn't know that Sullivan killed Costello to cover his tracks, so to further his cause, Sullivan kills Barrigan too.

He's thrown off of a building.. Queenan is killed when he gets caught by Costello's men at the abandoned building. He is there to meet Costigan, but once they realize that they've been followed he helps Costigan run down the fire escape. Costello's men catch Queenan and throw him off the building. He lands only a few feet from Costigan who was just getting back to the buildings entrance.
Nobody. Agent Dignam is one of the few characters who survives. There are talks for a sequel to "The Departed" starring Mark Wahlberg's character Dignam, and there might be a prequel in the works, to bring back all of the characters.

Madolyn. Madolyn is a police psychiatrist who meets Sullivan in an elevator on her way to work. After a bit of flirting she gives him her business card and they later go out to dinner and begin dating. She meets Costigan because he's one of her patients. She feels bad for him because he is so desperate for affection, but because she's involved with Sullivan, she tells him that they can't be together.
Police Academy. Brown went to the Police Academy at the same time as Billy. When we first see him, he is training to become the police officer, which he eventually does.
He's a black man in Boston.. Billy Costigan is running beside Brown while in the Police Academy when he says this to Brown. Brown is talking about how he will get pleasures from his girlfriend when he graduates.
Sullivan. Sullivan informs multiple state police officers that there may be a rat, although he is the rat. Brown never realises that Sullivan is guilty until it is too late.
Brown wouldn't go in. Sullivan takes Brown's phone so that the other officers can't tell that Sullivan is the rat. He uses the excuse of Brown not going in the room to cover up his own tracks.
Ellerby. Ellerby is very excited about being able to capture Frank Costello. All the plans of capture become foiled when the cameras are not set up where they should be.
