      Sipsey. Sipsey kills Frank. We do not find this out until the very end of the movie. When Frank comes back to kidnap his son, Sipsey counteracts by hitting him on the head with a frying pan. Ruth thinks that Idgie murdered Frank, and has no idea of the crime Sipsey has committed. Smokey Lonesome is also present at the murder, but he does nothing except tell Frank that he should not take Ruth's baby.

When Idgie comes to pay Ruth a visit, she is surprised to see Ruth with a black eye. Idgie puts two and two together. The next time she comes to visit, she takes an expecting Ruth with her and threatens to kill Frank Bennett in his own home!

      Mary Stuart Masterson. Idgie is probably the wildest character in the film. As a child, she refuses to wear a dress to her sister's wedding, and instead wears suspenders. Mary Stuart Masterson plays Idgie. Mary-Louise Parker plays Ruth, Kathy Bates plays Evelyn, and Cicely Tyson plays Sipsey.

      Alabama. The majority of this film takes place in Alabama. The Southern feel of the movie is apparent throughout the film, especially in the scene where the Ku Klux Klan capture Big George. The Ku Klux Klan was very popular in the South.
