Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Garland, Judy
'Meet Me In St. Louis'. This picture was to become one of MGM's all-time grossers, second only to 'Gone with the Wind'. If you don't know Margaret O'Brien, you have to see the movie just because of her.
Which Judy film co-starred Angela Lansbury, had a business depending on the arrival of trains, and included the song 'On the Atchison, Topeka and the Sante Fe'? | Let's Go To The Movies With Judy Garland

'The Harvey Girls'. 'On the Atchison, Topeka and the Sante Fe' won an Academy Award in 1946 for Best Song. I love the scene where she has to go to the saloon to get the meat shipment back.
'The Clock'. She almost didn't get to do this film because Arthur Freed (producer) felt the public wanted to hear her sing.
'Little Nellie Kelly'. 'Little Nellie Kelly' was released in 1940, one year after 'The Wizard of Oz'. This is the only movie for which Judy performed a dying scene.
'Easter Parade'. This movie was originally supposed to co-star Gene Kelly, but he broke his ankle playing football right before shooting was to start. Fred Astaire came out of retirement to replace Kelly.
'Summer Stock'. The number 'Get Happy' was added after filming had ended, in order to fill more screen time. If anybody understood the musical number with all the barking dogs, let me know!
'In The Good Old Summertime'. 'You've Got Mail' was also a remake of 'Shop Around The Corner'.
'For Me and My Gal'. This film marked Gene Kelly's official MGM screen debut. This film also was the first time her name was billed alone over the title.
The Wizard of Oz . Please tell me you got this one right. Did you know the song 'Over the Rainbow' was almost pulled from the movie because they felt it slowed down the story?
1944. She played the role of Esther Smith; it is one of her best-loved roles. She fell in love with and married director Vincente Minnelli while making this film.
Gene Kelly. When Gene Kelly broke his ankle, Fred Astaire came out of retirement, and jumped at the chance of working with Judy. It was their only film together.
3. Judy and Gene made 3 movies together- For Me and My Gal (1942), The Pirate (1948), and Summer Stock (1950). They are one of the greatest musical pairings in the history of movies.
Van Johnson. 'In the Good Old Summertime' was a musical remake of the film hit 'The Shop Around the Corner.'
Shirley Temple. It is hard to imagine anyone else but the fabulous Judy playing this role! MGM wanted Shirley Temple so badly that they even offered to give away some of their biggest name stars. However, the deal fell through, and beloved Judy got the part.
Drum Crazy. In this scene, Nadine wants to get even with Don and Hannah by asking Don to dance with her. Don agrees, and Hannah thinks that Don is still in love with Nadine. Of course, in the end, Don and Hannah get back together, and get engaged.
Orville Wingate. Arte was the name of the piano player for the barnyard musical 'Fall in Love' in the movie.
