Golden Globe Awards
Brokeback Mountain. The all-around favorite, "Brokeback Mountain," won 4 awards. It chronicles the relationship of two midwestern cowboys. Surprisingly, the film lost the Best Picture to non-Globe nominee, "Crash."
Walk the Line. "Walk the Line," isn't exactly a musical or a comedy. Neither, in fact, are two other nominees, "The Squid and the Whale" and "Pride and Prejudice." The film tells the story of Johnny and June Carter Cash. It was not nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
Ang Lee. The winner, Ang Lee, directed the Best Drama winner, "Brokeback Mountain." The film deals with two married men re-discovering feelings for each other after many years. Lee also took the Best Director Oscar.
Brokeback Mountain. "Brokeback Mountain" was written by Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana. It was based on the short story by Annie Proulx, about two cowboys named Ennis and Jack. The screenplay also won the Oscar for Adapted Screenplay.
Palestine. The winning film was entitled, "Paradise Now." It tells the story of two young suicide-bombers. The South African "Tsotsi" took the Oscar.
George Clooney. George Clooney appeared in the political thriller, "Syriana." Many considered this to be a leading role. Clooney also won the Oscar.
Rachel Weisz. Rachel Weisz appeared in the film, "The Constand Gardener," a film about medical conditions in Africa. Weisz also won the Oscar.
John Williams. Frequent-winner John Williams composed the 2005 film, "Memoirs of a Geisha," which tells the story of a young Japanese woman's geisha training. Surprisingly, Santaolalla went on to win the Oscar for his score of "Brokeback Mountain."
Gustavo Santaolalla and Bernie Taupin. Mel Brooks added his song to "The Producers" movie. This song was not in the Broadway musical production. Santaolalla did not receive an Oscar nomination for his song.
Felicity Huffman. Felicity Huffman was also nominated for her Emmy-winning role on "Desperate Housewives" in the Best Actress TV Drama category.
