The Wizard of Oz. Victor Fleming's reaction to the GWTW script was, 'There's no ------ story here!' An old drinking buddy of Clark Gable's, he made instant enemies out of Leigh and deHavilland. His brand of sensitivity, when Leigh asked him how a scene of hers should be played, amounted to, 'Oh, just ham it up.'
Victor Fleming. George Cukor was involved in the production of GWTW from day one. Known as a 'woman's director' because of his sensitivity and patience, he was adored by Vivien Leigh and Olivia deHavilland. Clark Gable, on the other hand, was uncomfortable with Cukor's homosexuality and sensitive approach, and insisted on a change. Sam Wood filled in until Victor fleming could come on board. Cukor had filmed a lot of the scenes that appear in the movie, but made it clear that he did not want his name associated with the production.

love. Leigh could not master the Southern accent for (love), which sounds a little like (loouuuvve). The problem was solved by a tennis game. When the score was announced, Leigh asked what (love) had to do with tennis. When told that the word was really (l'oeuf) (French for egg, or zero), Leigh, fluent in French, had the problem solved. Over each (love) in her script, she wrote (l'oeuf).
Pansy. Pansy O'Hara just doesn't cut it. This was the opinion of the book's publisher, who asked Margaret Mitchell to change it.
