Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Great Mouse Detective, The
Sherlock Holmes. Not only did Basil live under Holmes' Baker Street apartment, he was also a direct parody of the famous sleuth. With his neat (sometimes nauseating) cleanliness and order, Poirot doesn't seem like the kind of guy to have mice living anywhere near him.
Scrooge McDuck . "Bless me bagpipes!" Scrooge McDuck is best know as the rich central character of "Duck Tales". Scrooge McDuck also became Ebenezer Scrooge in "Mickey's Christmas Carol".
the Queen's 66th. Nigel Bruce is the most highly recognized screen Watson. Dawson is about as close as you could get to a mouse-like Nigel Bruce.
Bill the Lizard. He is in Ratigan's gang. He kind of stands out, because the rest of the gang is composed entirely of mice.
German. This is a line from the Sherlock Holmes book "The Red-Headed League".
In the book, Holmes went on to say that the German music was more to his taste than French or Italian.
60 years. It is her diamond jubilee.
The Rat Trap. This is written on a sign right in front of the door of the pub.
a bell. That is one FAT cat! How many of his henchmen has Ratigan fed her? If it wasn't for the big bow and those rolls of fat, Felicia might be almost scary.
alcohol. During the song "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind", a VERY drunk Bartholomew makes the mistake of calling Ratigan a rat, and is soon fed to Felicia.
When Ratigan has the list of new laws to be decreed at the end, one of the laws levies a heavy tax against "parasites and sponges, including the elderly, the infirm, and especially little children." What number law was this? | Follow the Clues with "The Great Mouse Detective"!

96. He was barely down the list at all. If that was already 96 laws, he must have had thousands more to read.
being called a rat. Ratigan flies into a rage when he is called a rat. He is, in all reality, a rat, but for some reason he just can't be proud of his species. During one of his rages, he yells "I am NOT a rat!" His henchmen try to soothe him, saying, "Of course you're not. You're a mouse... a big mouse."
10:00. Apparently Big Ben is the name of the bell actually enclosed inside the clock. I never knew that. I thought the clock was called Big Ben.
emerald. I have no clue how he would know that, but that's just the kind of deduction that Basil's human counterpart, Holmes, would make.
Business. I don't know why the animators felt the need to include a stray Business paper.
Bartholomew. Bartholomew is a mouse and is voiced by Barrie Ingham, who also did the voice of Basil. Bartholomew is eaten by Felicia the cat because he accidently calls Rattigan a rat.
Vincent Price. Rattigan is a very naughty rat. He has committed many crimes in London and is the sworn enemy of Basil.
Sherlock Holmes. Basil also lives on Baker Street, and in one scene Sherlock Holmes' shadow can be seen through the upstairs window as he's speaking to Watson.
Mrs. Judson. Mrs. Judson is modelled on the housekeeper/landlady in "Sherlock Holmes".
Replacing Queen Mousetoria with a robot.. In the song "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind", Rattigan tells us that his greatest crime is yet to come and this is soon revealed as his horrible plan to replace the Queen of England with a clockwork replica who then appoints him as her consort.
Fidget. Fidget accidentally drops his list of things to get for Rattigan's scheme and Basil the Detective finds enough in this piece of paper to lead him to Rattigan's lair.
Olivia. Olivia irritates Basil in the beginning by insisting on coming with the two men, but by the end of the movie, she has won him over.
yes. He cries when Olivia leaves happily with her father.
Afghanistan. Dawson has just returned to London from military services in Afghanistan. He finds Olivia crying in a boot and helps her find her way to 221 Baker Street. When they arrive, Olivia plans to ask the famous mouse detective, Basil, if he can find her father. Basil recognizes Dawson as a doctor because of the Lambert stitch used to sew up the sleeve of his jacket and the pungent aroma found on the catgut used to sew the tear.
Fidgit . Fidgit was the peg-legged bat responsible for the kidnapping of Olivia Flaversham's father. When Olivia tells this to Basil, he decides to take the case because Fidgit works for Professor Ratigan. Basil has been in pursuit of Ratigan for years and has recently come to a dead end clue-wise. Ratigan has taken Flaversham in order to create a robot that resembles the queen.
Food. In order to get Flaversham to work on the robot queen, Professor Ratigan plans for Fidgit to capture Olivia. Ratigan reveals the plan to his cronies to get rid of the queen in order to become the ruler of all Mousedom. When one of Ratigan's cronies calls him a rat, he summons Felica the cat to eat him.
A crumpet. When Fidgit arrives at 221 Baker Street, Basil and Dawson search for him, but all they find are tracks and his hat. Basil decides that Toby would be perfect for the job, so they all hop aboard Toby's back and head down the trail. Toby gets Fidgit's scent and races through the streets of London.
A toy store. When they arrive at the toy store, Basil and Dawson search for Fidgit while Olivia goes off on her own. Meanwhile, Fidgit finishes obtaining his tools, gear, and uniforms. When Dawson finds a note that Fidgit dropped, the mechanisms and toys in the store start to turn on and Olivia gets distracted by some bubbles. When she goes to investigate, she finds Fidgit and gets taken. Fidgit manages to escape out of an open skylight.
In a wine bottle. When Fidgit returns with Olivia, she reunites with her father, but gets stuffed into a wine bottle for the rest of the time. When Fidgit reveals that Basil is on the case and he lost the list, Ratigan summons Felica.
Meanwhile, Basil and Dawson take the list to Baker Street and examine it. They find coal dust on the list and determine that the bat was near a sewer. Basil also determines that Fidgit was at a seedy pub when he had the list. They find a seedy pub where the sewer connects to the waterfront and they visit it.
What type of animal is performing on stage at the seedy waterfront pub when Basil and Dawson arrive? | The Great Mouse Detective

Octopus. When they arrive, the octopus is juggling and tap dancing to a cheerful song. Basil and Dawson (in their sailor get-ups) ask about Ratigan, but the people in the bar deny seeing him. When a mouse starts singing a song for the customers, Basil notices the bartenders slip drugs into their drinks. Dawson drinks his, but Basil realizes what's happening just as Fidgit walks by. Soon, a chain reaction starts and the bar has a huge brawl which gives Basil and Dawson the chance to chase Fidgit through a trap door and into the sewers...right into a trap.
A rolling pin. Ratigan has rigged a record player so that when a record ends, it releases a ball from the top of a wine jug. When it hits the mousetrap, it snaps back with Basil and Dawson tied up inside. This will trigger a gunshot, the crossbow will fire, and the axe and anvil will fall. Ratigan leaves in his blimp with the robot and when the song ends, Basil creates a way to set off the trap early and prevent anyone from getting hurt.
Big Ben. Basil, Dawson, and Flaversham rig up some balloons and follow Ratigan through the sky but they crash into Big Ben. Basil wakes up to the sound of winding gears and crashing cogs in the tower. Olivia warns Basil, but Ratigan knocks him down. Basil manages to save Olivia after catching Ratigan's cape in the gears, but Ratigan escapes. Basil passes Olivia up to her father, but Ratigan pushes him over the ledge. Luckily they land on the hands of Big Ben, and when the clock strikes nine, Ratigan falls off. Basil manages to survive by grabbing the propeller part of Ratigan's ship and pedaling to safety. In the end, Flaversham and Olivia are reunited and Basil and Dawson begin their next case.
