History of the World: Part I

What was the name of Empress Nympho's captain of the guard?History of the World

Bob. Madeline Kahn gives us the answer in the scene in which she is on the litter, "Oh Bob, do I have any openings that this man might fit?" Any scene that has Madeline Kahn in it is sure to bring a laugh. She also starred in "Young Frankenstein" alongside Gene Wilder.

In the scenes that featured the French Revolution, what was Rimbaud's prison number?History of the World

      107. "What's a matter Pierre, cat got your tongue?" You can see the prison number in the scene when his daughter goes to the tower to free her father. During the French Revolution, the peasants rebelled against King Louis and Marie Antonette, who reportedly said "Let them eat cake." I'm sure she did not eat anything after they chopped off her head.

How many men did Empress Nympho pick as her escorts to the midnight orgy?History of the World

      7. "You made some very big decisions today." Madeline Kahn was one funny lady, she also starred in "Blazing Saddles" as Lily Von Stup.

What was the name of the actress that played the role of the unemployment agent?History of the World

Bea Arthur. "I'm on my wine break." Bea Arthur is a wonderful actress who was excellent on daytime TV as well as the big screen, as shown in "Maude" and my personal favorite, "The Golden Girls." Betty White was also in "The Golden Girls", Madeline Kahn played the role of Empress Nympho, and Mary-Margaret Humes played the role of Mariel, the Vestal Virgin.

How many parts did Mel Brooks play?History of the World

      5. Mel Brooks had 5 roles: Comicus, Moses, Torquemada, King Louis, and the "double in case of trouble," during the French Revolution. Mel is one of the greatest actors and a very funny man, well at least he makes me laugh.

1 million BC. The answer can be found in the caveman scene. It came after the first homo sapian marriage, according to the movie. This scene also showed the birth of the artist as well as the critic.

How many people were in the stone age choir?History of the World

      9. "For mankind, it began by an accident." They say that music is a universal language, but this is one choir I would not want to be a part of, seeing as how the conductor hit the people to make them "sing".

How many eunuchs protected the Vestal Virgins?History of the World

      3. "He is a eunuch." "He is a eunuch." "He is dead." Eunuchs were "made" to protect the harems of kings and emperors, since they had no desire to romance the women. The answer can be seen when Comicus and Josephous are hiding in the room containing the Vestal Virgins. Josephous is pretending to be a eunuch and the guards bring in a belly dancer to make sure all of the men are indeed eunuchs.

In the Inquisition scene, how many nuns were there?History of the World

      16. This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie, imagine Torquemada played by a Jewish actor, Mel Brooks, what an oxymoron. All the information, the questions, the answers, and the extra stuff, including the title and names of the actors and actresses came directly from the movie.

During the French Revolution, what fruit did Count de Monet take away from Bearnaise?Another Lesson In "History of the World"

raisins. The French Revolution segment was my favorite. Count de Monet was played by the very funny Harvey Korman, and Bearnaise was played by Andreas Voutsinas. Count de Monet bought raisins for both of them, but when de Monet had finished all of his, he wanted Bearnaise's as well. And, since de Monet had bought the raisins, Bearnaise was forced to hand them over to de Monet.

During the Roman Era, Josephus (played by Gregory Hines) and Comicus (played by Mel Brooks) were in Caesar's palace. They were ordered into a fight to the death by Caesar himself. This spoofed a fight from what classic movie?Another Lesson In "History of the World"

Spartacus. This movie spoofed a lot of other great movies. Some of them were "Ben Hur", "Spartacus", "The Ten Commandments", and "The Greatest Story Ever Told". Comicus had made a joke poking fun at Caesar's weight, and Josephus spilled wine on Caesar because he was not paying attention. Caesar got upset and ordered both of them to fight to the death. Neither of them won, because together they decided to fight their way out of the palace.

During the French Revolution, what do most of the other characters call Count de Monet?Another Lesson In "History of the World"

Count the Money. Count de Monet was the king's adviser, and told King Louis that the peasants were revolting against him. Count de Monet was the person who came up with the idea of substituting a double for the king. King Louis loved the idea, and said, "I like it, a double in case of trouble". Count de Monet had a team of people make over Jacques so that he looked exactly like the king, right down to the mole on King Louis' cheek. This is the second movie where Harvey Korman's character had to correct people on how to pronounce his name, the first movie was "Blazing Saddles".

In the caveman scene, the artist came first. Who came after he did?Another Lesson In "History of the World"

the art critic. The first scene in the movie was the Prehistoric era, which was narrated by Orson Welles. The caveman artist, played by Sid Caesar, painted an animal on the wall of the cave. Soon after, the art critic came by and urinated on his painting. This was way before the era of thumbs up or thumbs down.

During the Spanish Inquisition, how many nuns were on the menorah?Another Lesson In "History of the World"

seven . Torquemada had tried everything he could think of to try to get the Jewish men to convert. So in the end, he had to resort to calling in the nuns. The scene was done like a game show, with Mel Brooks playing Torquemada. This was ironic because the Spanish Inquisition was a Catholic entity, and Mel Brooks was not Catholic. To get the effects shown, this scene was filmed entirely in reverse.

What kind of bath did Caesar jump into?Another Lesson In "History of the World"

a treasure bath. Marcus Vindictus (played by Shecky Greene) first brought Caesar an alabaster bathtub. Caesar was not totally impressed with it and said, "nice, not thrilling, but nice". Then Marcus Vindictus brought Caesar treasure from the Orient. When Caesar saw both of the gifts together, he got the idea for a treasure bath. Caesar jumped in the tub and had a bath, but when he got out he had to pull a scepter from his backside.

During the French Revolution scene, did Jacques, posing as King Louis, ever find a pardon in the king's desk?Another Lesson In "History of the World"

yes. Mademoiselle Rimbaud went to the king to get her father a pardon. King Louis asked her why her father, Monsieur Rimbaud, had been imprisoned. She told him that her father had said, "the poor ain't so bad". King Louis told Mademoiselle Rimbaud (played by Pamela Stephenson) that if she wanted to save her father she would go to bed with him. She agreed, but when she came to his chambers, it was Jacques, disguised as the king, who was there. He told her that he would go ahead and pardon her father. They went to the desk of King Louis and tried to find a pardon. After finding mostly execution papers in the drawer, Jacques stated that the king was a "tough guy". He finally found one last pardon, and Monsieur Rimbaud did indeed get his pardon from Jacques. What was funny about the scene was that there were mostly executions in the drawer, and only one pardon. Earlier in the scene, King Louis had stated that he loved the poor, but obviously he did not, because he only had that one pardon compared to five executions.

What was the sign that the vestal virgins put on?Another Lesson In "History of the World"

no entry. Vestal virgins were the priestesses of Vesta. It was important that they kept their virginity intact. During the Roman segment, when the Roman soldiers came into their private room, Empress Nympho ordered the virgins to put on their signs. The soldiers went in there looking for Comicus and Josephus, who had gone in there to hide. Comicus hid behind the curtain, and Josephus tried to blend in with the eunuchs. One of the officers pointed out to Empress Nympho that he was not large like the other eunuchs. Empress Nympho told the officer that Josephus had just become a eunuch, and that he needed time to plump up.

Here we go. This musical scene included dancing monks, singing prisoners, and synchronized swimming nuns. They were singing while trying to convert the Jews and Muslims to Christianity. It's my favorite scene in the entire movie!
