Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
House on Haunted Hill .
Watson Pritchard. "The ghosts are moving tonight, restless, hungry. May I introduce myself? I'm Watson Pritchard. In just a minute I'll show you the only really haunted house in the world. Since it was built over a century ago, seven people including my brother have been murdered in it. Since then, I've owned the house. I've only spent one night there and when they found me in the morning, I was almost dead."
Annabel. Annabel had the idea for the funeral cars, and Frederick dreamed up the hearse. I don't know if I'd ride in a funeral car--even for 10,000 dollars.
She didn't know any of the guests. "This spend the night ghost party was your idea, remember? If it's gonna cost me 50,000 dollars I want you to have fun." Annabel: "The party WAS my idea until you invited all the guests. Why only strangers why none of our friends?"
knife. "This is what she used on my brother and her sister, hacked 'em to pieces. We found parts of the bodies all over the house, in places you wouldn't think. Funny thing, the heads have never been found. Hands and feet and things like that, but no heads."
rat. "Destoys everything with hair and flesh--just leaves the bones." The animal, at least from what I saw, was too big to be a mouse.
Lance. Nora was ALMOST injured by the chandelier in the beginning, but remember Lance saved her. He was hit in the head by something in the closet in the basement.
head. "Mr. Pritchard, you say your sister-in-law killed a man and a woman here and cut them up? You said they found hands and feet but they never found any heads? Would you like to see one of those heads?! Would you all like to see one of those heads?! Well, then, just follow me!" Nora is the high strung one of the group. Don't you think?
guns . "This was my wife's idea...I think they're rather dangerous. I suppose you all know how to use one of these things, but in case you don't, you just press down this lever with your thumb and then pull the trigger. (BANG) You see, they're loaded."
Annabel. She was found hanging from the ceiling.
murder. Lance says that it's murder.
Frederick. Lance suspects Mr. Loren of killing his wife.
outside the window. This was the part when the rope came around Nora's ankles. She was literally paralyzed with fear.
Trent. "An admission of guilt, doctor?" Frederick Loren asks Dr. Trent. Trent hears someone walking and decides that he and Loren should have a look around--seperately.
Trent. And that would be the reason why Dr. Trent wanted to search the house separately. He went in to see Annabel, who wasn't really dead.
Nora. This question reminds me of the ever popular "Who shot J.R.?" ;-) It made me laugh when I wrote it down. Anyway, Trent told Frederick to look downstairs, and when he goes down, Nora shoots him. Then we hear that blood curdling scream she did so well. Don't watch this movie if you have a headache. That scream goes right through your head.
Trent and Annabel. Of course, Annabel dies, I made that kind of obvious. We never see Trent die--the lights go out and you just hear a sound like his throat has been cut. That's what I like about the old horror movies--no need for the blood and guts. We get the point.
William Castle. William Castle has been called the P.T. Barnum of movies. He always had some kind of gimmick for every movie he made.
Emergo. All the choices mentioned were gimmicks Castle dreamed up. Percepto was used for "The Tingler", also starring Vincent Price, the insurance policy bit was used for "Macabre", and the decide the ending was used for "Mr. Sardonicus". Quite an imaginitive fellow.
skeleton. This kind of stuff makes me wish I was around back in 1958. It must have scared the daylights out of the unsuspecting movie audience. It also must have caused a lot of laughs. A glow-in-the-dark skeleton was released at just the right time. But after a while, the kids got wise and started to throw popcorn boxes at it. It must have been a riot.
Vannacutt. The film doesn't explain a lot about the original house, it would be better if it had, as we are not told how the five members of staff managed to escape. Also the film could have done with that little extra bit of plotline.
James Marsters. He plays a camera-man filming a report on one of Price's new rides, which makes riders believe they are plunging to the ground in an elevator.
At the end of the credits, which two characters are shown, being tortured by the lunatics of the old asylum? | The House on Haunted Hill

Evelyn and Steven. I had no idea this part of the film was there until about the fourth time I watched it. It's not really the best cut off point but the little bit of mystery, as to what is going on, sort of makes you think.
1931. You have to wonder at an asylum that have a state-of-the-art devise which can close off the entire building and yet doesn't even have an alarm to let staff know when absolutely all of the inmates have escaped.
What reason does Eddie give for why he could not be, in anyway to blame, for what happened at the asylum? | The House on Haunted Hill

He was adopted. Sara was the one who, we are lead to believe, stole her invitation from her stepsister, Pritchard's father was killed by the house, and Eddie was adopted, so why is the 'evil' inside the house still out to get them?
Guns. Apparently he has used the same set up before at a party. Sara, who originally turns down a gun, ends up shooting Price, but not killing him...
Melissa. Price finds Melissa's 'remains' in the basement. It really seems that she was tempting fate by intending to use the night to get some spooky footage on her camera, if only she'd lasted a bit longer.
Sharpening pencils. I find this opening scene a little overly gory, the rest of the film is pretty gruesome, but this bit is definitely not for the faint-hearted.
4 o'clock. The man got stabbed in the neck with his own pencils.
Watson. This is mentioned once the first time we saw him. He told Blackburn his full name.
Former pro baseball player. This was said when Steven was asking the names of everybody. He gave his name and his profession so did everybody else.
Margaret. This is mentioned once while Steven asks for her name. She says "Melissa Margaret Marr - celebrity".
