Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The
f. Ishmael was actually played by Terry O'Neill who was in "Kull the Conqueror." Tom played Sanderson Reed, the "representative of Her Majesty's British Government", who gets Quatermain to join the League.
Fantom. Richard also has "Moulin Rouge", "Mission Impossible 2" and "Hound of the Baskervilles" under his belt.
Tom Sawyer. As we all know, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn escaped to an island to become pirates. Because of his love of danger and excitement, he could not turn down the offer of becoming an International Spy.
Tony Curran. Skinner stole an invisibility serum that, the now dead, Hawley Griffin invented. Skinner likes to be called a "gentlemen thief." He only joins the League as he has been promised a cure for his invisibility.
Captain Nemo. The League travel on Nemo's ship/submarine, The Nautilus Sword of the Ocean and in his automobile. He is a freedom fighter but to others is known as a pirate.
t. Dr Jekyll is the chemist who created a serum to cast out the evil that all men have inside of them. It transformed him into Mr Hyde who roams London raping and murdering.
Stuart Townsend. Moriaty and his soldiers try to attack the League in Gray's home. Gray gets shot about a dozen times but the bullet marks just disintegrate. One soldier asks him what he is, Gray replies "I'm complicated."
Mina Harker. Peta is probably better known for the series "La Femme Nikita." Anyone who has read or watched "Bram Stoker's Dracula" will know Mina Harker. She got bitten by Dracula whilst trying to destroy him and is now a creature of the night.
Nigel. Nigel poses as Quatermain to "keep the story seekers at bay." One of the best quotes is said in this scene. Nigel says "Perhaps I should toddle off, should I, Allan?"
Sean Connery . Quatermain is the leader of the League and is known for discovering King Solomon's Mines. He also has the deadliest aim in the British Empire.
Captain Nemo. Edward Hyde, Allan Quatermain and Rodney Skinner. Even Nemo is probably not his real name but means "No-one" in Latin.
Moriarty has seen his portrait. Dorian's painting shows the state of his soul so Moriarty would know how much of a scoundrel he is from looking at it.
Jekyll. This is just after Jekyll has said he'll never let Hyde use him again. With the movie version of the League making Mina a scientist instead of a music teacher, Jekyll is viewed as utterly useless by them, they want him for Hyde.
"Growl". Stuart Townsend, who plays Dorian, does however say "Boo" in exactly the same tone of voice in "Queen Of The Damned".
Plucking his eyebrows. It would be entirely unnecessary for Dorian to pluck his eyebrows as he never looks any different from when his portrait was first painted, however we do see him doing so just before Mina does her impression of Quatermain.
2. Mina, obviously, and Moriarty's secretary who has three words. There are women in Africa in the beginning but none of them speak intelligibly, they all just scream!
Peta Wilson . Peta Wilson also stars in the TV Series "La Femme Nikita".
No. Obviously being 'visibly' present is a problem when it comes to Skinner, who becomes totally invisible without clothes or greasepaint, and there are only a few occasions on which both Jekyll and Hyde can be seen. However, at these times not all the other League members are present.
An invisible man and a monstrous double. Interestingly, Dorian Gray is actually the only member with a strange attribute who is not duplicated. One of Moriarty's men takes a copy of Jekyll's formula and becomes an Uuber-Hyde four times as big as the 'normal' one, and another is made invisible.
Quatermain, Nemo, Skinner, Mina, Dorian, Sawyer, Hyde, Jekyll. Quatermain is recruited from Africa and taken to London, where he meets Nemo, Skinner, then Mina. They visit Dorian, Sawyer gatecrashes, then on to Paris to pick up Mr. Hyde, who then becomes Jekyll, and so the League is set.
Skinner and Sawyer. Dorian Gray was not in the League in the comic, but he was in the book. His portrait appears on the front cover and as a Paint By Numbers activity in the back! Tom Sawyer was not in the comic at all, and Skinner was not the Invisible Man mentioned, the original League had Hawley Griffin instead.
The Murders In The Rue Morgue. Quatermain comments that Mr. Hyde has been killing prostitutes in the Rue Morgue. "The Oval Portrait" could well have been applied to Dorian as it describes a portrait sucking the life out of the sitter.
4. Quatermain and Nemo are obviously largely bearded, Dorian has a small beard and Skinner can be seen to have stubble when he's wearing the greasepaint!
Dark red. She always wore this scarf in the comics as well, she does wear a choker instead on the posters but never wears it in the movie. Jekyll wears the white scarf and Sawyer can be seen in a black scarf near the beginning.
Shane West . We first encounter Sawyer in Dorian's library where he took the place of one of the Phantom's men. Allan spots him out of the corner of his eye, and Sawyer winks at him.
Throughout the film it becomes increasingly obvious that Tom Sawyer has feelings for Mina Harker, the vampire.
His science. A photograph was taken of his science. Blood was taken from Mina, skin from Skinner, and a bottle of potion from Dr. Jekyll.
2. When Sawyer and Quatermain are running after M, Sawyer gets tripped up by something, and thinks it is Skinner. He shouts for Allan to continue, and the invisible man says, "What makes you think I'm Skinner?"
Edward. After the bombs go off on the 'Nautilus', Henry jumps into the water and drinks his potion. After successfully draining the water, we see Henry's face in a piece of mirror saying, 'Well done Edward'.
Paris. The deeds he had performed in London were so bad that Her Majesty the Queen had exiled him to Paris.
1899. The whole play was set on the turn of the century. 1899 was when the police in London discovered the tank that they could not stop. The other dates were a year before. These dates were not mentioned in the film.
As you probably guessed, the characters from the League have been taken from various places. What famous novel, and later play, did Mina Harker come from? | The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Dracula. After the others find out she is a vampire, she explains that she was with two men called Van Helsing and Jonathan Harker fighting an evil called Dracula.
