Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The
Throughout the film, Pele sings songs originally perfromed by David Bowie ("Starman" and "Life on Mars" for example). In what language are Pele's versions sung? | The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou

Portugese. Wes Anderson is a HUGE Bowie fan and thought this would be an interesting way to incorporate Bowie's music into the film.
Kingsley. Steve tells Ned that he would have named him Kingsley if he had the opportunity. For the duration of the film, Ned affectionately toys with the idea of changing his name but decides to stick with Ned.
Dolphin. By placing Klaus' initial by the dolphin, Ned has deeply moved Klaus. The reasons why are unknown, but Klaus' reaction is priceless.
I'm A Pepper. This T-shirt is quite a dramatic wardrobe shift for Alistair who is usually seen in flowing, fancy silk fabrics. He is found by Steve playing cards with his kidnappers after they sunk his ship and stole his equipment.
Air Kentucky. If you remember the letter he wrote to Steve, one of the things he wanted to be when he grew up was a pilot. He did in fact become one, and mentions to Steve when they meet that he is a pilot for Air Kentucky.
Her editor. The father of her baby was cheating on his wife with Jane, and was aware that she was pregnant with his child. She subsequently ended her relationship with him via phone message from the Belafonte.
Yes. He plays a character named Phillip who is Oseary's assistant. This is the first time that Noah and Wes have collaberated on a script together. They are joining forces again for an animated feature entitled "The Fantastic Mr. Fox".
"they say we all are". It was mentioned earlier in the film, by Steve's wife, that Alistair might be "part gay". When Alistair admits this, Steve responds "they say we all are" and receives a warm embrace from Alistair.
"Staralfur" by Sigur Ros. This song is not on the actual soundtrack, but it is in the film. Wes has a habit of using music in the film but leaving it off the soundtrack CD. In "Bottle Rocket", the Rolling Stones song "2000 Man" was absent from the soundtrack; and in "The Royal Tenenbaums", "She Smiles Sweetly", also by The Stones, is not on the soundtrack.
Wes Anderson. 'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou' is the fourth film of director/writer Wes Anderson. He also directed the subversive 'Rushmore' and received an Academy Award nomination for his screenplay of 'The Royal Tenenbaums'. He made his debut with a little independent film known as 'Bottle Rocket'.
Willem Dafoe. Willem Dafoe adopts a German accent to play the crazed Klaus Daimler. Dafoe has received previous Academy Award nominations for his supporting performances in the films 'Platoon' and 'Shadow of the Vampire'.
The Belafonte. The Belafonte is named after Harry Belafonte. Belafonte was famous for singing Calypso songs, and Jacque Cousteau's ship was named The Calypso. Cousteau is said to have inspired some of the storyline.
Kentucky. Ned Plimpton is a pilot from Kentucky. In one scene he discusses Kentucky with the titular character, Steve Zissou and in another he calls the airline to let them know he has decided not to fly anymore.
Jaguar Shark. Steve doesn't know what the shark was, and called it a Jaguar shark, since that was the first thought that popped into his head when he saw it. The shark ate his friend whole. This is mostly implied, although partially shown, in the opening scene of the film.
A Glock. Steve says that all interns get a Glock and this is later confirmed by one of his aides. In one scene Steve uses a Glock to shoot at deadly pirates.
All of the above (Coffee Machines, A radar, Seadiving equipment). Because Alistair is well funded, Steve decides to lift his gear to help aid the Belafonte's trek. He steals a lot of important and expensive objects and in the end of the film Alistair finds out that Steve stole all his stuff.
Cody. Steve decides the name Cody on the spot, when Alistair asks him the name of the dog. After rescuing the Bail Bond stooge, Cody is left on the shore. He was originally left by the pirates when they boarded Steve's ship.
Not to kill the Jaguar Shark. "You must swear, legally swear, that you will not kill this shark or whatever it is you saw." In order to properly fund the expedition Oseary makes Steve swear not to kill the shark, otherwise the team wouldn't be able to get the money. This quote is also shown in the trailer for the film.
Ned. Ned is killed in a helicopter crash when it slams into the ocean. This is one of the more serious and emotional scenes of the film. The crew of the Belafonte mourn Ned, and Steve's wife is especially emotional. His death comes practically as a shock to the viewer and is very sad.
