The boyfriend wanted to leave because Jay's mom was crazy. He left Jay his surfboard and later on Jay destroyed it.

Sid. At the end of the movie, Sid finally convinced his father to let him and his friends skate in the pool. Shortly after the Dogbowl, Sid died of brain cancer.
