Jenny's father. Phil doesn't believe in titles like 'Dad' or 'Mister.' He's enlightened, and everything. I think he's supposed to be the comic relief, but I'm not sure, because he wasn't comic. He was, however, just about the sole likeable person in the entire movie. (IMHO)
Radcliffe library. Oliver needed to borrow a book to study for an exam. Jenny snottily asked him if Harvard did not have its own library.
music. Oliver discovered this while checking out her notebooks over coffee. He was impressed that she was taking an honor's course.

Oliver Barrett III is excellenty played by veteran actor Ray Milland, who also had leading roles such classics as "Lost Weekend" and "Dial M For Murder".
christmas tree salesman. After a lady made him haul several trees to her car and back, she only tipped him a quarter. He mouthed "Merry Christmas" behind her back but we knew he really wanted to tell what she could do with her quarter.
third. Jenny jokingly told him that she wouldn't be impressed until she met numbers one and two.
Mr. Barrett's 60th birthday party. Jenny pleaded with Oliver to patch things up with his father before it was too late, as Mr. Barrett was not getting any younger, but stubborn Oliver refused. This resulted in their memorable first, big fight, and the first big weep for the audience when they made up.
Jonas and Marsh.
Oliver went to his father to borrow money for Jenny's medical expenses. He did not want to tell his father why he needed the money. Mr. Barrett asked snidely if they did not pay Oliver at Jonas and Marsh.
Mr. Barrett:(stiffly) "And doesn't she teach?"
Oliver: (angrily) "Don't call her 'she'."
bought two tickets to Paris. Oliver felt guilty because Jenny gave up a music scholarship that she really wanted in Paris to marry him and he wanted to make it up to her.

Jenny's father is played by veteran character actor John Marley. One of his more famous roles was that of the movie producer who gets the gristly "surprize" in his bed in "The Godfather".
"I wish I hadn't promised Jenny I'd be strong for you.". Ironically, just before she died, Jenny asked Oliver to be strong for Phil.
because that was his name. Jenny and her father had a very informal yet loving relationship. Oliver's relationship with his own father is a lot more distant and strained.
