Edward Van Sloan. Edward Van Sloan (1881-1964) was a versatile character actor whose career spanned many decades. His best known role is that of Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, Count Dracula's nemesis, in Universal's "Dracula" (1931). He was also casted by Universal in "Frankenstein" (1931) as Dr. Waldman.
