O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Finish this tagline from the movie, 'They have a plan, but not a ___'? | 'O Brother!'
|
Who said this quote, 'It's a fool who looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart'? | 'O Brother!'
|
money from an armored car. When Pete confided to them that he had told the law about the treasure and Everett admits that there was no treasure, Delmar asks him where's all the money for the armored car job.
Yes or no? George Clooney sang the songs when we see him singing? | 'O Brother!'
|
no . Actually he was going to and it was said that he did a fine job at it but George didn't think it sounded good enough so he just lip-synced them.
What was Everett's correctional identification number? | 'O Brother!'
|
9958-771 5. If you look closely, you can see it near the beginning of the film.
Practicing law without a license. Again, when Everett admitted to them that there was no treasure, after Delamr asked him what happened to the money, he admitted he never knocked off an armored car. He went down for practicing law without a license.
Yes or no? The blind man's prophecy to them came true? | 'O Brother!'
|
yes. Don't you remember? He said they would see a cow on a roof and at the end after the flood, we saw a cow on the roof.
True or false? This movie won a Golden Globe award for Best Motion Picture? | 'O Brother!'
|
False. It was nominated in that category, but didn't win. George Clooney did, however, win a Golden Globe award for Best Male Performance in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
Mississippi. The over-the-top hot and sticky south.
Ulysses Everett McGill. George Clooney should have gotten an Oscar nod!
Pete. This was a perfect part for him. He always seemed to be in his own world and saw things through this world only.
Dapper Dan. It has to be Dapper Dan or nothing at all and the hair net was a nice touch.
When Pete, Everett & Delmar are spending the night at the Hogwallop's house and wake up to the sound of "the authorities", telling them that they are surrounded, what does Everett (George Clooney) say over and over? | O Brother, Where Art Thou?
|
"Damn, we're in a tight spot!". When the three men are in trouble, I love their use of facial expressions showing confusion and sheer panic.
Wash Hogwallop, Pete's cousin. Pete can't believe that Wash turned them in and says, "You's kin!" Wash replies, "It's the Depression. I got to do what's good for me and mine!"
Boy Hogwallop. When they all get in the truck and are about to bust through the barn doors, Boy Hogwallop says, "I'm gonna R-U-N-N-O-F-T." However, after they escape the three men tell Boy to go home.
Delmar and Pete. Delmar is so glad to be saved and such a contrast to the Atheist that Everett is. Pete doesn't say much about it.
$10.00. Their song, "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" becomes a hit and they didn't even know it!
Big Dan Teague. An evil Bible salesman and thief, parodying the cyclops from "The Odyssey" is brilliant and frightening.
When the convicts are on stage at the end of the movie and are about to sing, "He's in the Jailhouse Now". What key does Delmar tell the musicians to play in? | O Brother, Where Art Thou?
|
In the neighborhood of B.. I love the "neighborhood" reference.
Delmar to Babyface Nelson. The boys love seeing that money float around in the car.
His clothes are laid out on the rocks and a toad pops out.. As Delmar said, "They loved him up and turned him into a horny toad!"
In the woods being beaten with a whip.. The audience learns that Pete isn't a horny toad or dead afterall.
"Do not seek the treasure!". There is no treasure. Everett never held up an armored truck. He was practicing law without a license and busted out of jail because he had to stop his wife from marrying someone else.
Ulysses Everett McGill. George Clooney really brought the character of Everett to life. Even though Everett was a fast-talking liar who took advantage of his friends, you couldn't help but love him!
One of my favorite characters in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" was Delmar O'Donell! After Delmar was baptized in the river, he mentioned a crime he committed in Yazoo City. What crime was it? | Characters from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
|
Robbery of a Piggly Wiggly. After Delmar was baptized in the river, the preacher said Delmar was free from all his previous sins. In the words of Delmar, "It's the straight and narrow from here on out, and Heaven Everlasting is my reward."
His wife was going to remarry. Everett initially told Pete and Delmar that he was in prison for stealing $1.5 million dollars from an armored car. Everett told Pete and Delmar that he hid the money in his cabin, and that they should break out of the prison farm and retrieve the money. Delmar and Pete were Everett's chain mates on the prison farm, so Everett couldn't escape unless Pete and Delmar escaped, too. Later in the movie Everett and Delmar got separated from Pete for a while. They later met up again, and Everett told them the truth: there was no treasure. Everett was sent to the prison farm for practicing law without a license, and the reason Everett wanted to escape was to stop his wife from remarrying. Needless to say, Pete was enraged, and Delmar was dumbfounded.
Another of my favorite "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" characters was Tommy Johnson. When Everett, Pete, and Delmar were driving down a deserted stretch of road, they met Tommy at a crossroads. Delmar told Everett to stop and give Tommy a ride. Tommy asked the men if they were going toward a certain town. What town did Tommy want a ride to? | Characters from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
|
Tishomingo. After they picked Tommy up, someone asked Tommy why he was at the crossroads. Tommy replied that he was there last night at midnight to sell his soul to the Devil. Delmar, who had just been baptized, was shocked. Tommy's story seemed to parallel the story of bluesman Robert Johnson.
Towards the middle of the movie, Everett and Delmar met Big Dan Teague (played by John Goodman) at a fancy restaurant. Big Dan and Everett struck up a conversation, and Big Dan mentioned his job. What was Big Dan's job? | Characters from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
|
Bible Salesman. Big Dan was a Bible salesman, and he mentioned that Bibles were selling like crazy because America was in the middle of the Great Depression, and people wanted answers. Big Dan suggested that Everett and Delmar accompany him on a picnic. While they were picnicking, Big Dan broke a branch off of a tree, beat Everett and Delmar, and stole all of their money. He also cruelly killed the toad that Delmar mistakenly thought was Pete. Poor, simple-minded Delmar was crushed when this happened.
Everett's wife Penny, was a very demanding woman. She was ashamed of the fact that Everett got sent to jail, so she made up a story to excuse his absence. What did Penny tell everyone (including her and Everett's seven daughters) happened to Everett? | Characters from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
|
He got hit by a train. When Everett saw his daughters performing at a concert for governor candidate Homer Stokes, he ran up and gave them a hug. The girls told Everett that their mother said he'd been hit by a train.
You Are My Sunshine. Pappy eventually won the election, because Homer Stokes revealed that he was a member of the Ku Klux Klan at a benefit concert for Pappy O'Daniels. This concert was broadcast over the radio, and Homer Stokes lost his popularity with the Mississippi voters.
Men from the bank. Towards the beginning of the movie, Pete took Delmar and Everett to his cousin Wash Hogwallop's house, so that Wash could remove their chains. The boy had been told by Wash to shoot anyone from the bank, or anyone with "papers".
