yes. This story is the life of Beverly Ann D'Onofrio. She titled the book "Riding In Cars With Boys: Confessions of a Bad Girl Who Makes Good". She wrote the book in the '80s and the rights were purchased in 1989 by James L. Brooks to make the movie.
Just how the movie went is how her life went. At the beginning of the movie, right after the title, it says 'based on a true story'.
I watched the DVD over, and went through all the commentary and special features. It shows the real Beverly, and black and white pictures from her life. The real Beverly and Jason appear in the wedding scene, and they are sitting right behind Drew.
Wallingford, Connecticut. The movie starts out in 1961 in Wallingford, Connecticut. This is Beverly's hometown and where most of the movie takes place. Here, in this town, we proceed to her teenage years, and her struggling young adulthood. The opening scene shows Beverly and her sister in the bathroom talking about kissing boys. It is Christmas time, and the family is getting prepared. This would make Beverly 11 years old.
Dream. "Dream", by the Everly Brothers plays on the radio while Beverly and her dad are on their way back from getting the Christmas tree. After a 1,2,3 count, they start singing together as they pass through a small town filled with snow and Christmas lights.
Beverly Ann Donofrio. Beverly is the star of this movie, and she takes us through her life. Beverly is sometimes called Bev by her friends and family for short. Beverly's dad honks the horn, signaling that it is time to go and get the tree. Her mom yells up to the bathroom to let her know, and calls her by her full name.
a bra. This scene takes place while driving home from getting the Christmas tree. They pull over so Bev can show her dad the house that she is going to buy him when she gets rich. She explains to him that she likes this guy, Billy Schnar, and she needs big boobs to impress him. So, what she wants for Christmas is a bra. He says no, while giving her a very troubled look.
Teresa Donofrio. Teresa Donofrio is Beverly's mom. She is a housewife, and is always busy cooking and cleaning. Throughout the movie, her mom takes care of her, always there to lend a hand and show support when Beverly needs it most. Lorraine Bracco plays Teresa Donofrio, she also played in "Goodfellas".
