However Jack got called up by the Edmonton Oilers and was replaced by Dave Hanson for the film. Every year Steve, Jeff and Dave do numerous public appearances as the Hanson brothers and took up these roles again for the unsuccessful sequel in 2002.

The dog statue located in the downtown park in the movie is actually a big part of the town's history. The dog statue was washed away in that flood, but later found and reconstructed. In the movie the dog is said to be a hero from a flood in Charlestown. Johnstown's minor league hockey team later took Chiefs as their nickname.
