Sling Blade
He murdered again.. To protect Frank and his mother from Doyle's abuse, Karl murders Doyle with a lawn mower blade.
Mustard. Actually, Karl liked mustard on biscuits, as well as on "french fried potaters".
Lawn Mowers. Karl was very good at repairing lawn mowers. In one humorous scene, his coworker cannot figure out why a mower won't start even though nothing appears to be wrong. Karl walks over to the mower, looks in the gas tank, and discovers it is out of gas. Funny!
John Ritter . John Ritter stars as Vaughn Cunningham, the gay manager of a dollar store in town.
He was mentally challenged.. Karl was mentally challenged, but he was very highly functioning. He read lots of books. Actually, Karl could have had autism, but most information in the story indicates that he was mentally challenged.
Dwight Yoakam. Dwight Yoakam stars as the abusive boyfriend of the mother of Frank, the young boy Karl befriends.
Murder. When Karl was 12, he murdered his mother and her lover in a fit of rage. At the time of his release, Karl had been institutionalized for 25 years.
Karl Childers. Karl was abused and neglected as a child. He was forced to live in a hole in his family's garage.
Billy Bob Thornton . "Sling Blade" is actually an expansion of the short film Billy Bob Thornton created entitled "Some Folks Call It A Sling Blade".

Mustard and biscuits.. He waited for his mother to bring him some mustard and biscuits the night he killed her and her lover. He heard a noise and went up to the house to find his mother and get his supper. A man (Jesse Dixon) was on top of his mother, having his way with her. Jesse always teased Karl in school. He picked up a kaiser or sling blade (used for cutting weeds) and hit Jesse on the head and killed him. His mother was upset. Carl guessed that his mother didn't mind Jesse being there, so Carl killed her too.
In a hole in the ground, in a shed behind his parent's house.. His parents were poor and ignorant.They believed that Karl was not normal, therefore not worthy of being a regular member of the family. He was placed in a shed in the back of his house. The only place he had to sleep was in a hole in the ground with a quilt. He was teased in school so much, that instead of going to school he just sat in the shed and tinkered with lawn mowers and small engines.

Take his picture.. Karl was teased so much growing up and has such low self-esteem. He also doesn't want anyone to know who he is or what he did. Jerry Woolridge, the state hospital director, said that Karl wouldn't even let them take his picture for the Easter collage.
Looking out a window.. Karl is in a state mental hospital for killing his mother and her lover. He is quietly sitting by a window in a large room with other patients. One of the patients, who is a sexual psychopath, drags a chair across the floor to come over and talk to Karl. He tells Karl some gruesome stories about his criminal activities.
Karl goes to Linda's and is standing in front of Doyle. Karl asks how to call the police. Doyle asks him why he wants to know, and Karl says that he aims to kill him. Doyle takes a sip of beer, then tells Karl that you dial "911". What two emergency vehicles are mentioned? | "Sling Blade" #2

an ambulance and a 'hearst'. After Karl kills Doyle, he very politely calls the 911 dispatch and explains what he just did. He then goes and gets the mustard, sits at the kitchen table and has a biscuit.
Karl goes to Vaughan's house and gives Vaughan all the money that he has made working for Bill Cox, to give to Linda and Frank. He asks Vaughan to do what that night? | "Sling Blade" #2

Have Linda and Frank stay at his house.. He warns Vaughan to keep everyone away from Linda's house, because Doyle is drinking and he's afraid of what might happen. He wants Vaughan to be a daddy to Frank. As Karl leaves the front porch of Vaughan's house,he says, "Karl?" Karl keeps on going.
Karl finds Frank at the lake. Frank guesses that he is leaving. Karl gives him his books and a handmade bookmark. What does the bookmark say? | "Sling Blade" #2

"You will be happy.". Karl says "goodbye" to Frank and walks away from him. Frank takes out the bookmark and reads it. Frank's expression is of speculation as to what Karl means by putting that on a bookmark. He calls out, "Karl?" Karl keeps on going.
Linda returns with the chicken to find Karl walking across the front yard with his books. He thanks Linda for everything and tells her that he fixed something. What did he fix? | "Sling Blade" #2

Robert Duvall. What a weird scene this is. He sees the hole in the ground in the shed where he slept, and his filthy old house. His father immediately telling him, "I got no boy." Karl tells him he would cut the grass for him, but his father rejects him, and just sits there babbling.

Hammer. Doyle is very upset by Karl waking them up in the middle of the night with a hammer in his hand.
Antique furniture and midgets. Also, Doyle doesn't like Frank because he thinks that he's a weak little kid. He doesn't like Vaughan because he's gay. He doesn't like Karl because he's retarded! This is a very immoral and unpleasant character.
