Something's Gotta Give
Harry shows up unexpectedly and they wind up together. After six months of soul searching, Harry comes to the realization that he actually loves Erica and decides to pursue her for an honest relationship. After learning that Erica is in Paris, he travels there to pour out his heart to her, and although she is vacationing with her boyfriend, Dr. Julian Mercer, she too realizes her true feelings and Harry and Erica wind up together in a very happy ending. They share a moonlight kiss on a bridge over the Seine River - very romantic!
He dies. Harry's character (who we learn is named "Henry") ends up dying in the second act of the play. Erica says she struggled with whether or not to kill him off, but decided to let him die since the real-life Harry had been so rotten to her.
Paris. Erica has always dreamed of going to Paris, and she chooses it as the perfect ending location for her play. As she is writing it, she listens to French music to keep herself inspired. Erica even goes to Paris with her new boyfriend, Dr. Mercer, to celebrate her birthday in January.

white. She admits to being rather set in her ways when Harry points this out. Later, when Harry is leaving her house to go back to the city, Erica gives him a jar filled with black stones to remember her by.
Erica's house. Erica is repulsed at the thought of having Harry, whom she isn't exactly "fond" of, in her house, but she is assured that there will be plenty of other people there to help out. After a short while, though, everyone goes home, leaving Erica to take care of Harry on her own. Their friendship starts to grow as they realize that they're not so different after all.

He suffers a heart attack. This is such a funny scene! After being rushed to the hospital, doctor Julian Mercer (played by Keanu Reeves) asks if Harry has taken any Viagara lately, to which Harry says "No." Dr. Mercer explains that the medication he's given Harry could prove fatal if mixed with Viagra. When Harry hears this, his eyes grow wide and he literally rips the IV out of his arm! Very funny!

A Woman to Love. After not seeing each other for some time, Harry hears that Erica has written her play about their time together. He is shocked to find out that she pokes fun at him, and that he is the butt of her character's jokes. Harry and Erica have a shouting match at the theater where the play is rehearsing, and afterwards Harry suffers an anxiety attack.

Drive By Records. Harry explains that it's a hip hop label. We find out later in the movie that he has been in the music business since he was 29 years old.
Rachel Ticotin. Ticotin, a native of The Bronx, New York, played Dr. Martinez. Harry collapsed right outside a restaurant in New York City near the end of the movie and he was seen being treated at a hospital by Dr. Martinez. While Harry was at the hospital, he told Dr. Martinez that he took Viagra so she asked him if he was having any chest pain while she ordered an EKG be taken. Dr. Martinez used a stethoscope to listen to Harry's breathing and then she asked a nurse to give Harry an aspirin. Dr. Martinez then asked Harry what he was doing when he collapsed and he mentioned that he had a fight with a woman. He asked Dr. Martinez if a woman could have given him chest pains so she chuckled and said it was obvious that could happen. Dr. Martinez told Harry that his EKG was normal, his heart rate was good and the pain he described was not anything serious. Ticotin starred in the films "Con Air", "Total Recall" and "Man on Fire".
Paul Michael Glaser. Glaser was cast as Dave Klein in "Something's Gotta Give". Dave was Erica's ex-husband and Kristen's fiancée and it was mentioned that he directed Erica's plays. Near the end of the movie, Dave went out to dinner with Kristen, Marin and Erica and he was seen asking Erica if she was thirsty but she did not respond to him. Right after Kristen mentioned that she went to school in Philadelphia, Dave told Kristen that Erica went to Bryn Mawr which is also in Philadelphia. After talking for a little while, Dave asked the women if they were ready to order and they said they were. Dave asked Erica if he liked duck and she said he did and it was rabbit which he hated to eat. At one point, Dave noticed that Erica did not look well so he asked her if she was alright and she responded that she was. Glaser guest starred on the TV shows "Numb3rs", "Criminal Minds" and "The Mentalist".
KaDee Strickland. Strickland, born on December 14th, 1975 in Patterson, Georgia, landed the role of Kristen. Kristen became engaged to Marin's dad, Dave Klein, and the two of them invited Marin and Erica to have dinner with them. Kristen stated that she worked as an ear, nose and throat doctor and she mentioned that she studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. During the dinner conversation, Kristen realized that her mom and Erica attended the same college. When Erica offered to give Kristen a list of the things Dave liked and disliked, Dave mentioned that Kristen could figure it out for herself. Strickland had roles in the movies "Girl, Interrupted", "The Sixth Sense" and "The Family That Preys".
Lorna Scott. Scott played Mrs. Gimble. After Harry was ordered to rest up at Erica's home, he hired Mrs. Gimble to be his personal nurse while he recuperated there. However, Mrs. Gimble was seen telling Erica one day that Harry fired her as his nurse and she was therefore leaving the home. Erica told Mrs. Gimble that she had just started and did not want her to leave. Harry then came into the room and clarified that Mrs. Gimble had not been fired but was just not needed. Erica interjected and told Harry that they did need Mrs. Gimble but Harry asserted to Erica that he was fine. Harry apologized to Mrs. Gimble if he caused her any trouble and showed her out of the home. Scott had guest starring stints on the TV series "Good Luck Charlie", "Sordid Lives: The Series" and "Criminal Minds".
Jon Favreau. Favreau, a native of Queens, New York, portrayed Leo Hoffman in "Something's Gotta Give". Leo went to the hospital where Harry was at and told Dr. Mercer that he would be taking Harry home. Dr. Mercer then asked Leo to identify himself and Leo said he was Harry's personal assistant. Leo then elaborated on his job by telling Dr. Mercer he cooked for Larry, drove him around a little and sometimes planned his parties. Dr. Mercer mentioned to Leo that it sounded like an interesting job so Leo stated he had been doing it for six years and there never was a dull moment. When Leo got to Larry's room, he asked Dr. Mercer if he could hug him and Dr. Mercer said that would be okay. Favreau guest starred on the TV shows "My Name is Earl", "The King of Queens" and "Tracey Takes On...".
Keanu Reeves. Reeves, born in 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon, was cast as Julian Mercer. Julian worked as a doctor and was seen treating Harry after he went to the hospital due to chest problems. While Harry was receiving treatment, Julian introduced himself to Harry and then asked him if he was in any pain. Harry responded to Dr. Mercer that he felt some pressure in his chest so Dr. Mercer asked him to show him where the pain was. Dr. Mercer then asked Harry what he was doing when the pain started so Harry responded that he was kissing a beautiful woman. Dr. Mercer then told a nearby nurse to give Harry some aspirin and five milligrams of metoprolol as well as to start a nitro drip on Harry. Dr. Mercer informed Harry that the EKG he had done on him showed that Harry had a blocked artery, which meant that the artery was not allowing enough oxygen to get to the heart muscle. Dr. Mercer then told Harry that he needed to know what medications he had taken so he could better treat him. In other scenes in the movie, Dr. Mercer was seen spending time with Erica. Reeves starred in the films "Speed", "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "The Devil's Advocate".
Frances McDormand. McDormand, born on June 23rd, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois, landed the role of Zoe. Zoe was Erica's sister and Marin's aunt and she was seen eating dinner with them near the beginning of the movie. Harry was also at the dinner and all of them began to talk so Zoe asked Harry if she read an article about him in "New York" magazine. Harry responded that she did indeed read such an article and Zoe recalled the title of it being "The Escape Artist". Erica then mentioned to Zoe that she also read that article. When Marin mentioned that Harry was once engaged to Diane Sawyer, Zoe piped in and said she loved Diane Sawyer. Zoe asked Harry when he was engaged to Diane Sawyer but Harry simply said it was a long time ago. During the dinner, Marin mentioned to Harry that Zoe taught in the Women's Studies Department at Columbia University. McDormand had roles in the movies "Fargo", "North Country" and "Primal Fear".
Diane Keaton. Keaton, born in 1946 in Los Angeles, California, played Erica Barry. Erica was a playwright and was first seen entering her beach house with her friend, Zoe, when she noticed someone at her refrigerator. Erica was scared since she thought the person was an intruder and the person revealed himself to be Harry. Erica told him to stay where he was since she and her friend had a knife. Harry then asked Erica if she lived there and Erica refused to answer but informed Harry she would call the police. Erica asked Zoe to hand her the phone so she could call the police and that was when Harry informed Erica that he was a friend of her daughter's. Erica told Harry that she did not believe he was a friend of Marin's. As Erica spoke to the 911 dispatcher, Harry told her he was dating her daughter, Marin, and she invited her to stay with him at the home for the weekend. When Erica realized Harry was telling her the truth, she told the 911 dispatcher it was a false alarm. Erica eventually dated a doctor named Julian Mercer but she was unable to deny her feelings for Harry. She eventually broke up with Julian to be with Harry. Keaton was seen in the films "Annie Hall", "The Godfather" and "Marvin's Room". In 2004, she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for "Something's Gotta Give" but lost to Charlize Theron for "Monster". Other Oscar nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role that year were Keisha Castle-Hughes for "Whale Rider", Samantha Morton for "In America" and Naomi Watts for "21 Grams".
Amanda Peet. Peet, a native of New York City, portrayed Marin. Marin was Harry's girlfriend when the movie began and was seen early on in the movie talking with Harry. He told her that he would like to meet her mother. Marin said that, while her mother was great and brilliant, she was not Harry's type and he likely would not enjoy their meeting. Harry responded to Marin that he was a great person as he did not have a specific type of woman. Marin told Harry that her mother was over 30 years of age. Harry then mentioned to Marin that they would have a beach house for two days and wondered what they would do for those two days. Marin asked Harry if he wanted to go for a swim with her but he told her no. Marin informed Harry that one of the rules about staying at the beach house was that smoking was not allowed. Peet guest starred on the TV series "How I Met Your Mother", "Important Things with Demetri Martin" and "Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip".
Jack Nicholson. Nicholson, born on April 22nd, 1937 in New York City, was cast as Harry Sanborn. Harry mentioned that he believed he was an expert on the younger woman since he had been dating them for over 40 years. In his first scene, he drove in his convertible with a woman named Marin riding shotgun. Marin mentioned to Harry that her mother was rich but then she backed off and said she did not consider her rich. Harry stated that if she lived within a mile of where they were, she would be rich. Marin then informed Harry that her mother was a playwright since she had a hit play. Harry did meet Marin's mother, Erica, and the two of them were seen in the movie bantering around. In the final scene of the movie, Harry and Erica were a couple after Erica chose him over her other love interest, Julian Mercer. Nicholson starred in the movies "The Shining", "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "About Schmidt". In 1975, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the movie, "Chinatown", but lost to Art Carney for "Harry and Tonto". Other Oscar nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year were Albert Finney for "Murder on the Orient Express", Dustin Hoffman for "Lenny" and Al Pacino for "The Godfather: Part II".
Julian. While in Paris, Harry finds Erica on her birthday. He tells her about going back through his past and talking to some of the previous women he had dated. After telling her the story he is surprised to see Julian show up to meet Erica. He then gives her a birthday present, which she decides to open in the hotel. Towards the end of their meal, both Erica and Harry take out each other's reading glasses. Watching them exchange glasses makes Julian realize that Erica is in love with Harry. Realizing how much she loves Harry, Erica leaves Julian at the Hotel to go find him. A year later we see that Erica and Harry have ended up together. They are walking into a restaurant and the host welcomes them as Sanborn party of four and a half. Those included are: Harry, Erica, Danny, Marin, and their baby girl is the half.
Paris. After Harry and Erica have their night of passion, when they are eating eggs by candlelight, they discuss their love of Paris. Erica then suggests that if they still know each other they should go to Paris for their birthdays. Even though they haven't seen each other for six months, Harry decides to keep the deal.
Marin. After Harry leaves the beach house, Erica receives a call from Marin who is upset over the fact that her father has begun dating a woman who is about Marin's age. When she does show up, Marin asks her to go to dinner with them all. While there, she sees Harry on a date with another woman.

Cigars. Erica smells a lit cigar on the first night of Harry's stay in the house. She makes him puts it in the glass of water. Later when he leaves to go back to the city, she gives the cigars back to him, but asks him not to smoke them.
Marin. Harry and Marin are driving out to the beach house at the very beginning. However, Marin is not aware that her mother and Aunt Zoe are going to be there as well. Harry and Marin are hoping for a romantic trip, but while Marin is getting ready, Harry is in the kitchen. When Zoe and Erica walk in, all they see is his legs under the refrigerator door, which prompts them to call the police and grab a knife.
The Hamptons. Marin tells Harry this in the very beginning as they are in Harry's car driving toward her mother's beach house. They later discover that Erica and her sister, Zoey, also plan to spend the weekend there.
Music producer. He tells Erica this when they are leaving the store towards the beginning of the movie. The company is a hip-hop label called Drive By Records.
Playwright. She is seen writing a play throughout the first half of the movie, later titled "A Woman To Love", which is inspired by her relationship with Harry. Julian also mentions this when he meets her at the hospital after Harry's heart attack.
