Adolphe. Although the snake is never seen, it's described as an Eastern Coral Snake.

Basil Rathbone. Though Basil Rathbone made over seventy-six movies during his career, (ninety-four counting television), this one was way off from his norm.
Snake bite. Just as the snake was not seen, neither were the deaths of Cousin Andre or Paul. This was done to keep in touch with the comedic aspect of the film and at the same time not to scare those who may be afraid of snakes and or death.
