Why'd You Lie to Me?. Anastacia repeated "Dontcha Wanna" and "Why'd You Lie to Me?" on both "Not That Kind" and "Freak of Nature" when they were released in the US. Ally McBeal. Anastacia appeared in "Ally McBeal" at the bar they frequented. She sang "I'm Outta Love" at the close of the episode.
Stage. Her grandmother nicknamed her this when she was a little girl because she could already see that she had star quality.
Crohn's Disease. Anastacia noticed a bump on her stomach when she was thirteen years old. The doctors thought it might be a tumor, so they wanted to operate immediately. When they cut her open, however, they found out it was Crohn's disease. Anastacia is one of the few people with Crohn's disease that doesn't have a lot of side-effects. She doesn't have an enlarged face, she is not losing weight, and her hair is not falling out. She only has to be careful about what she eats because she does have a low resistance. In early 2004, Anastacia was also diagnosed with breast cancer, but because of early detection, Anastacia came out on top and has beaten the disease back into remission.
Michael Jackson. Although Michael Jackson courted her for his record label before the release of "Not That Kind", Anastacia has never sung a duet with him. She did, however, sing "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" with Elton John for a network television special. Faith Evans appears on Anastacia's sophomore album, "Freak of Nature", on the song "Thought I Told You That". Anastacia was a member of "VH1's Divas Live 2002" and sang a duet with Celine Dion to open the show.
Her mother called her that growing up. Growing up in New York City, Anastacia's mother, Diane, was constantly asked why her daughter sounded like a "300 pound black woman". Her mother's reply was always, "I don't know. Just chalk it up to being a freak of nature." Anastacia liked this phrase, and she decided to name her second album "Freak of Nature".

Boom. Anastacia wrote "Boom" with Glen Ballard specifically for the 2002 World Cup after being hand-picked and asked to record a new theme song for it. She performed the song at the opening ceremonies to an audience of more than one billion people.
MTV's The Cut. Anastacia competed in the one season "MTV's The Cut" was on the air (hosted by the late Lisa Lopes). She ended up the runner-up act out of literally THOUSANDS of contestants. The next day, Anastacia says her phone started ringing off the wall. Celebrities were calling her to congratulate her-- among them, Elton John and Michael Jackson who wanted to sign her to his new label. Talk about a BIG break! After a bidding war for her talent, Anastacia eventually signed with Epic Records.
