Tim Wheeler and Mark Hamilton. Both were from Downpatrick, Ireland and had attended high school together. They formed a small band consisting only of them two (Tim on guitar and Mark on bass). They used the name "Vietnam" and were told to be the worst band in their county.
Rick McMurray. Rick, who would become Ash's drummer, had also attended Tim and Mark's high school. He was said to be a loner, who had a wierd, bug-eyed stare everytime Tim and Mark saw him walking down the hallways.

Charlotte Hatherly left, making Ash three members again. On January 20, 2006, Charlotte Hatherley left the band after 9 years leaving the rest with what they had started with. Hatherly had already released a solo album in 2004 and was planning to release another in 2006, a start of her solo career.
