True. Kelly Clarkson's first single "A Moment Like This" was uploaded to every major radio station directly following the finale of "American Idol: The Search for a Superstar" on September 4, 2002. It debuted at number 52 on the Billboard Top 100 the week of September 15, 2002. The next week, her single was commercially released and the week of September 22, 2002, Kelly's first single sat on top of the charts at number one, flying 51 spots in ONE week to achieve her first number one hit, proving she definitely deserves the title "American Idol". The previous record for the biggest jump was held by The Beatles for over forty years, shooting to number one with "Love Me Do" from number 27.
A Moment Like This. Kelly's video for "A Moment Like This", released in October 2002 starts out with her walking down a deserted theatre towards a stage. After making it to the stage and singing out to the empty seats, flashbacks of the show are intertwined with her performance. It starts at the very beginning with her audition in Dallas, then making the Top 10, then clips from the show, culminating in the finale when she was crowned THE American Idol.
Her apartment burnt down. Shortly after moving to LA with her best friend, Jessica, for the first time, their apartment burnt down. The only thing that survived the fire were the clothes they were wearing at the time. Because of this, nineteen year old Kelly was forced to move back home and hope to pursue her dreams later. It was only a couple of months before her fateful audition for "American Idol: The Search for a Superstar"!
Six Flags. When Kelly was 19, she worked at Six Flags, where she met her best friend, Jessica. Jessica is the reason Kelly even auditioned for "American Idol". She filled out all the paperwork for Kelly and made her sign her name to the paperwork to audition. Kelly did not forget that she owes everything to Jessica's persistence. Kelly bought her a vintage convertible as a "thank you".
Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Kelly made a VERY brief appearance as an extra on "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" a couple of months before auditioning for "American Idol". She was in the episode "The Whole Ball of Wax" which premiered April 26, 2002. The episode revolves around Sabrina accidentally turning her mother into a ball of wax when she finally meets her. The witch's council had strictly forbade her and her mother to come face to face with one another. If you watch carefully during the hallway sequence when Sabrina is talking to her mother's wax form, you will see Kelly walk by staring at Sabrina.
False. Although "A Moment Like This" was released as Kelly's first single for radio play and retail sales, "Before Your Love" was Kelly's first video. "A Moment Like This" was released in October 2002, while "Before Your Love" was released in September 2002.
Reba McEntire. Kelly always proclaimed that Reba McEntire was her idol. Kelly eventually got the chance to duet with her when the Top 30 contestants performed "American Idol Live in Las Vegas" in September 2002.
