Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Darkness, The
Lowestoft. Justin earned himself the nickname "Y-Fronts" at school, for his habit of wearing his underpants over his trousers!
Empire. Prior to Empire, Dan Hawkins and Frankie Poulain played in a covers band with Dan on lead vocal duties.
"Bohemian Rhapsody". It had to be Queen really! Although listeners can spot the influence of bands such as Deep Purple, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, and Boston (to name just a few), it is Freddie Mercury and Queen who fans think they most resemble.
Drums. As well as Ed on drums, the band also has Justin on vocals, guitar, piano and synthesizer, brother Dan on guitar, and Frankie Poulain on bass.
Frankie was sacked from the band in 2005, and was replaced by their former guitar technician Richie Edwards.
"Permission To Land". Released in July 2003 to huge acclaim in the UK, the album, boosted by the success of the single "Growing On Me", soon topped the charts. Some reviewers assumed that the band were being ironic, and were not being serious, but, in interviews, Justin claims that they are "A real Saturday night band" and are trying to put the fun back into rock music.
"Get Your Hands Off My Woman". Great title and a great live favorite.
"Street Spirit". Not an obvious choice of a band to cover perhaps, but again "Street Spirit" has proved to be a big concert favorite.
Music Business Five-A-Side. The Darkness team had a very successful first season, with Justin Hawkins proving a reliable goal scorer! They competed against other music business teams such as Sony Records and Carlin Music.
Robbie Williams. The Darkness went down a storm, the crowds singing along to their catchy rock/pop songs. The Darkness released a Christmas single in December 2003 ("Don't Let The Bells End"), and plan to "Conquer America" and the rest of the world! In the words of Justin Hawkins: "Gimme a D! Gimme a...Arkness!" Further information and news on The Darkness can be found on the website www.thedarknessrock.com

Growing On Me. It's the first line of the second verse. The song's about someone (or something) they're trying to get rid of but can't.
