Dave Clark Five
Tottenham (London). Tottenham is located in the northern section of London. Dave Clark was an ardent supporter of the football team Tottenham Hotspur.
drums. The Dave Clark Five had a rather unusual stage setup- Clark and his drum kit were placed front and center, while the other band members remained on the side of the stage.
Mike Smith. Mike Smith had a deep, driving voice, which was perfect for the band's "wall of sound" image. Tragically, he died of pneumonia in 2008, shortly before the band was inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.
Glad All Over. When "Glad All Over" climbed to the number one position in Britain, several music pundits claimed that "Beatlemania" was dead! The Dave Clark Five were considered chief rivals of the Fab Four.
Ed Sullivan. Sullivan, based in New York city, supposedly liked the Dave Clark Five because of the band members' good looks and clean-cut image.
Over and Over. "Over and Over" reached the top spot in late December 1965, replacing "Turn! Turn! Turn!" by the Byrds. A week later, "Over and Over" was toppled from the number one spot by Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sounds of Silence".
Having a Wild Weekend. In Britain, the film was released under the name "Catch Us If You Can". Despite the title's name, the film was actually rather introspective and tame.
John Boorman. Boorman, born in 1933, achieved world-wide fame for his work on "Deliverance". He would receive an Academy Award nomination for the 1972 movie. Lester and Shenson, of course, worked with the Beatles on "A Hard Day's Night".
Dennis Payton. Payton also played the harmonica, sang background vocals and contributed to some of the songwriting. He died of cancer in 2006.
Epic. In Britain, the DC5's songs were released by Columbia Records. Epic singles had a distinctive yellow and black design which made them look bright on the turntable.
