Death Cab for Cutie
Death of an Interior Decorator. Like many songs they have written, Death Cab uses detail and imagery to help us visualize everything in the song.
We Looked Like Giants. "We Looked Like Giants" is about a girl and a boy making love and dealing with their temptations, "learn how our bodies worked" and "God damn the black night, with all its foul temptations..."
Summer Skin. One of Death Cab's slowest songs in the album, "Plans".

Marching Bands of Manhattan. This is the chorus for "Marching Bands of Manhattan", featured on "Plans". "Plans" was released in 2005, and was described by a band member as the "exhale" if the previous album "Transatlanticism" was the "inhale".
Grapevine Fires. "Grapevine Fires" is featured on "Narrow Stairs". This album was released on May 13, 2008 in the United States. It is Death Cab for Cutie's first album to reach number one on the Billboard 200, and was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award, "Best Alternative Music Album".
I Will Possess Your Heart. "I Will Possess Your Heart" altogether is eight and a half minutes long. Of course, the radio edit cuts the introduction down to under one minute. Despite the concern from fans that the album version introduction was "too long", it was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award for "Best Rock Song".
I Will Follow You Into the Dark. If you want to get technical, the lyric is actually "I'll follow you into the dark." This "Plans" single has already been covered by several bands including Dead Lemming Lounge and Hella Fly Cool Kids.

Talking Bird. The entire song "Talking Bird", featured on "Narrow Stairs", talks of the narrator's symbolic pet bird. This lyric refers to the bird's cage inside of its owner's house ("live in a house in a house"). Throughout the song, the talking bird grows more unsure about whether it wants to stay in its cage or fly out the constantly open windows.
What Sarah Said. This lyric is actually the band's explanation for the title of the album its on, "Plans". Death Cab for Cutie's lead singer, Ben Gibbard, explains that the title comes from one of his favorite "dark jokes": "How do you make God laugh? You make a plan. Nobody ever makes a plan that they're gonna go out and get hit by a car."
Long Division. "Long Division", heard on "Narrow Stairs", was written by Ben Gibbard, Chris Walla, and Jason McGerr. Death Cab for Cutie's preceding tour for "Narrow Stairs" was named after this song.
Cath. After the release of "Narrow Stairs", Death Cab for Cutie performed "Cath" on the talk show "Late Night With Conan O'Brien."
