Howard Portnoy. Mike Portnoy's dad (Howard) came up with the name after a theater he knew in CA that had been demolished. This was when the band was stuck on a name because they were forced to change their name when it was Majesty because there was already a band named that.

Liquid Tension Experiment. Liquid Tension Experiment was exactly how it sounds. They went into the studio and jammed. Some songs were written but most of it was improvisational (amazing isn't it?). At that time Jordan Rudess wasn't in Dream Theater yet. Now that Jordan is in Dream Theater, Mike and the boys feel that they don't need to continue that side project. Considering that 3/4 of LTD makes up 3/5 of Dream Theater.

The Song is divided into 8 parts but is still only one song. "A Change of Seasons" from the 1995 album of the same name is 23:06 long, "Home" from the 1999 release "Scenes from a Memory" is 12:53 long, and "It's Only A Matter Of Time" from the 1989 release "When Dream And Day Unite" is 6:36 long.

A Change Of Seasons. The lyrics are from the song "A Change Of Seasons", from the 1995 album of the same name. Although not recorded until 1995 the song was written in 1989 with the song "Metropolis Pt. 1 - The Miracle And The Sleeper". The lyrics are by Portnoy.
Majesty. The band was originally formed under the name "Majesty" in 1985 at the Berklee School of Music. It consisted of John Myung on bass, John Petrucci on guitar, Mike Portnoy on drums, Kevin Moore on Keys and Chris Collins singing. However Collins was replaced by Charles Dominici before they recorded their demo. The band was forced to change their name after learning another band owned the copyright. At the recomendation of Portnoy's father the name was changed to "Dream Theater", the name of a movie theater in California.
