Dutch Music
Hoe gaat het? We had a cult hit with "House of the King", (sounding a lot like Jethro Tull). Eventually, we had an international hit with "Hocus Pocus". Our name sounds a little like that last title. Who are we? | Dutch Music Invasion Then and Now

Focus. Focus went through a number of personnel changes over the years. "Hocus Pocus" had the distinction of being a rare chart song with yodeling in it.
Hi! We're from Delft, Holland. We had a big hit in 1969 that incorporated English and French. Somehow, the title doesn't quite ring a bell. Anyway, my friend, it was our only U.S. hit and if you know the name of our group, we'll let the bells ring, let the birds sing. Merci. What's our name? | Dutch Music Invasion Then and Now

The Tee Set. "Ma Belle Amie" was the Tee Set's interesting multilingual hit that went to number 5 on U.S. charts.
Hello, all! I'm Barry Hay, lead vocalist of this group. We did pretty well in Europe with "Ding-Dong-Di-Ki-Di-Gi-Dong". Later we opened for The Who and eventually recorded on their label. Our second biggest hit was "Twilight Zone". Who are we? | Dutch Music Invasion Then and Now

Golden Earring. Golden Earring hit U.S. charts with "Radar Love" in 1974. Aside from "Twilight Zone", in 1983, the Amsterdam group made no further impact.
I'm Austrian, actually. The name is Getty Kaspers. But I fronted a Dutch pop group that made a big splash across Europe after winning a Eurovision song contest. Our big hit was "Ding-a-Dong", but we also did well with "Ride in the Night" and "Robot". To North Americans, this may be a hard question, but who are we?

Teach In. Teach In had an Abba-esque sound which may explain their repeated success in the Eurovision contests. They are a very enjoyable act who swept across Europe for a time, but did not manage to cross the Atlantic. They also had a European hit in 1980 with "Bad Day".
We will be anonymous here due to the nature of our group. It's hard to name a Beatles song that we didn't weave into a medley. We hit number one with a bunch of the Fab Four's tunes in 1981. We kept up the medley idea through at least three very successful albums. We shone bright for awhile. Who are we? | Dutch Music Invasion Then and Now

Stars On 45. Stars on 45 was a studio group that recorded many enjoyable dance medleys. In addition to the Beatles, they tapped Stevie Wonder, Abba, Rolling Stones, and dozens of 50's and 60's hits.
Greetings! We are Cornelius, Kassje, Robby, and Mariska. Not as recognizable as John, Paul, George, and Ringo? You must remember us singing the lyrics "She's got it, yeah baby, she's got it" from the 1969 worldwide hit "Venus". Do you know who we are? | Dutch Music Invasion Then and Now
|
Shocking Blue. As popular as "Venus" was, it's surprising not much more was heard from Shocking Blue. Although, a compilation of their material was released. Bananarama released an updated version of "Venus" in 1986.
Hi! I'm Nelleke Brzoskowsy I was not around for this Dutch group's "Little Green Bag", but I contributed the main vocal years later for the very popular "Una Paloma Blanca". I'm glad I was selected! Can you recall our group name? | Dutch Music Invasion Then and Now
|
George Baker Selection. The Dutch Invasion was largely the result of producer Jerry Ross, who gathered master recordings of leading Dutch groups for release in the U.S. on his Colossus label. George Baker Selection had only two charted singles in the U.S., but remained active in their homeland for some time after the "Una Paloma Blanca" success faded.
How do you do, Haarlem calling! We are a guy and gal who sang separately until we were teamed up by a producer from the Dutch Philips label. A hint has already been given as to our biggest hit. Our second hit, also in 1972, was "Hey, You Love". Can you guess who we are?

Mouth and MacNeal. Mouth and MacNeal's "How Do You Do?" was a big hit. He was Willem Duyn and she was born Sjonkje Spijker, but went by the name of Maggie MacNeal. All of this goes to explain some of the choices in the quiz, but still doesn't explain exactly how Willem became Mouth.
