Happy Mondays
We're Thatcher's Children. And that's it my tribute to the greatest band walking the planet today. The real heroes of our times. Death to Norman Cook!
Bass. I dunno what make he prefers, go and have a look at Guitar Player if you're that interested.
Shaun . He really does look out of it nowadays.
Patrick Cox. That was TFI Friday. I am glad it no longer exists, it really began to get annoying after its first series.
Oasis. There is a rumour going about that Ryder is clean now...don't believe the hype.
Legends. This was the same club where Paul Oakenfold hosted the infamous Spectrum house night.
30-50 Rocks per day. Yes indeedy.
Postman. Please contact me if Shaun delivered your post.
Before he teamed up with Shaun and Bez to form Black Grape, which Happy Mondays album did Kermit guest on? | Happy Mondays Monster Quiz
|
Yes Please. Yes Please was probably what made Black Grape, i.e its complete failure.
Name that song: 'I could take you from behind and make you believe...What do you want to hear when we're making love?' | Happy Mondays Monster Quiz
|
Bob's Yer Uncle. Yes, there is a white Barry White.
Paul Oakenfold. Paul Oakenfold now the man at Cream, running the show. I think he looks like a pig, he has a dodgy nose.
Arm. When they went over Shaun had just got over heroin addiction. He goes to Barbados and gets hooked on crack cocaine...as Steps would say, Tragedy!
It's My Job. Shaun always forced Bez on, one time quoted to say: 'get 'em down yer throat son, Move! Throw 'em down yer neck!'
He's Gonna Step On You Again. Johnny Kongos still gets a sleeve credit for that sample.
The Cops. That only got to Number 5 back in what the old blokes down the pub will tell you were the good old days.
In April 1990, the Happy Mondays threw a gig to kick some sand at the Stone Roses' Spike Island scousefestival. Where was it? | Happy Mondays Monster Quiz
|
Wembley Arena. Marching on stage that night Shaun Ryder addressed the crowd with the notion 'Where's Me Pickled Herrings?'
John Cale. He's a Welshman as well, little wizard on bass guitar so he was. I wonder if he was out of rehab?
24 Hour Party People Plastic Face Carn't Smile (White Out). That's a hell of a long one (and a classic). Look out for the film about the Hacienda coming out, called 24 Hour Party People.
Los Angeles and London. Recorded in amongst some of the most notorious rock n' roll tales of debauched behavior. Stuff of legend.
The song 'Do it Better' appears on the Mondays' 'Bummed' album. It reappeared again along with other classics on the 'Live' album, but this time under a different guise, a single letter. What was it called? | Happy Mondays Trivia Circa 1990
|
E. 'Do it Better' had originally been called 'E' when it was written. When asked whether the song referred to the drug Ecstasy, Shaun Ryder would simply say 'It's called E because it's in the key of E'.
Tokoloshe Man. 'Tokoloshe Man'was originally recorded for the Mondays' American label Elektra's anniversary album, 'Rubaiyat'. 'Step On' was originally going on the album but it sounded so good they decided to release it as a single. 'Tokoloshe Man' was another John Kongos cover like 'Step On'.
'Wrote for Luck' originally appeared on the Mondays' 1988 'Bummed' album and eventually became a club hit when it was remixed. Paul Oakenfold remixed the song for the second time but who remixed it for the first club mix as 'W.F.L.'? | Happy Mondays Trivia Circa 1990

Vince Clarke. A slightly harder version than Oakie's 'Think about the Future Mix' and also the version featured in the 'Manchester Legends' video.
Why was the word 'Groovy' omitted from the original title of the hit single 'Kinky Afro' just before its release in the U.K.? | Happy Mondays Trivia Circa 1990
|
The Farm had just released 'Groovy Train'. The Mondays' removed the word 'Groovy' from the title of 'Kinky Afro' so that no one would get confused with their mates The Farms' hit single 'Groovy Train'.
Hallelujah. Kirsty Macoll guested on one of four remixes of the song the others being 'Original', 'Club' and 'Deadstock'. Hers is simply the 'Macoll' mix. She even appeared on 'Top of the Pops' with the band.
