Simon, Paul
Annie Hall. A rare film appearance by Paul. He came between the characters played by Woody Allen and Diane Keaton in this Oscar-winning film.
Kingston, Jamaica. Other tracks on his first solo album, 'Paul Simon', were recorded in Paris and Los Angeles, but this one was recorded in Jamaica with several local musicians.
Carrie Fisher. Unfortunately they divorced soon after, but the depression induced by the break-up inspired some of his best work on 'Hearts and Bones' and 'Graceland'.
Frank Lloyd Wright. A great melancholy song on one of their best albums. 'Architects may come and architects may go...'
Graceland. Makeba and Masekela are prominent South African artists who were largely unknown to the rest of the world at the time of the tour due to the cultural boycott against South Africa to protest apartheid. Ladysmith Black Mambazo also toured with Paul to promote this album in 1987.
Brazil. A wonderful album acknowledging the influence of West Africa on the music of South America. The influence of this music on Paul dates back to his arrangement of an 18th century Peruvian melody in 'El Condor Pasa' on the album 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters.'
in the ballpark. During an interview, Bob Costas asked Paul if this line was an allusion the the pope visiting New York and speaking in baseball stadiums. Paul said that was an interesting interpretation of that line, but he had not really considered before what the line really meant. He just wrote it.
Edie Brickell. Edie Brickell is Paul's third wife. His first wife was Peggy Harper.
color slide film. 'Kodachrome' is the first track on his 1973 album 'There Goes Rhymin' Simon'. This album draws from many different musical influences, ranging from cajun to gospel to jazz. Kodachrome was originally introduced as 16 mm movie film, but it is now used for high-quality color slides.
