Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Sisters Of Mercy
Leeds. Also the birth place of The Mission.
Andrew Eldritch. 'Singing drummers I hate them.'
'First And last And Always'. Originally titled 'Black October'
Dead Or Alive. 'You spin me right round baby, right round. like a record baby !!!'
Gift. This is actually a bit tricky. 'Gift' is a quickly recorded LP from the band The Sisterhood. When Wayne Hussey wanted to name his new band the Sisterhood after he got kicked out of the Sisters, singer Andrew Eldritch recorded this EP under the name The Sisterhood and thereby claimed the name as his own...
Just before the first big split of the Sisters of Mercy, they were busy recording a new record as a follow-up to the album 'First and Last and Always'. Can you give me the name of this album (the working title) that was never finished and released ? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Left On Mission and Revenge. Sources believe that is where Wayne Hussey got the name of his new band the Mission ...
In total the Sisters of Mercy released 3 full cds and 2 greatest hits collections. Every fan knows there are dozens of bootleg CD's available. I'm looking for the title of a bootleg greatest hits collection, featuring their singles and backsides from '85 until '88. Who can help me? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Some Boys Wander By Mistake. Strongly recommended for every collection. The official title of the first greatest hits collection is 'Some Girls Wander By Mistake'.
On the 'Exxile on Euphoria' tour through Europe they used metal band Paradise Lost as a support act. This band has made a cover version of a Sisters song - do you know which song? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Walk Away. It appeared in 1995 on the 'The Last Time' single, but I found it on A Limited Edition Commemorative Tour Pack (CD 'Draconian Times' and a bonus CD)...
The Leonard Cohen song 'The Sisters of Mercy' provided the name of the band. In return, Andrew Eldritch and company took a song of Leonard Cohen and hustled the lyrics around a bit resulting in a very nice song, often played on live concerts. This song is? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Teachers. The song contains the sentence: 'Some Girls Wander by Mistake...' and that became the name of the first greatest hits collection (funny how everything links together, isn't it?). The song 'Marian' on 'First and Last and Always' has nothing to do with Leonard Cohen. Neither does 'We Are the Same, Suzanna', a song they recently performed live...
Finland Red Egypt White. The fourth song of the 'Gift' LP from the Sisterhood is a readout from the manual of a Kalashnikov-rifle...
Emma. Brilliant version! It became eventually a bonus track on the 'Dominion' 12 inch single.
From which song is 'all of my words are secondhand and useless in the face of this. Rationale and rhyme and reason pale beside a single kiss' an extract? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Some Kind Of Stranger. Undoubtably their most epic song to date...
Although I stated in question 4 there were only 3 full cds released, there is a fourth CD. Because they wanted to terminate the relationship with their record company, the Sisters made in 1997 quickly a full CD which is unbelievably bad (some kind of ambient trip hop?). Although Andrew Eldritch warned the fans not to buy it, some of them did (hey, everything for the collection, no?). Who knows the name of this horrible CD? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Go Figure. The name of the band was changed to SSV (Screw Shareholder Value). To be very quickly forgotten...
Back to 1985, when the 'big divorce' was done. Which song is the only song that wasn't originally written for the Sisters of Mercy by Wayne Hussey - all these songs appeared on later albums of the Mission? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Wasteland. The three other songs can be found on various Sisters' bootlegs.
Ghostdance. I know of one full CD 'Stop the World', which actually is not bad at all.
Maybe they got inspired by the movie 'Romeo and Juliet', which put William Shakespeare's play in a modern timeframe, but the fact is they wrote a song referring to the play. This song is played live since a few years back, but has never been released. What is its name? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Romeo Down. One of their best new songs if you ask me (besides 'War on Drugs' that is).
The name of the tour from 1998 was, as usual, one with a deeper meaning. This time it meant the same as the position in a black hole from which light cannot escape anymore. Do you know the name? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Event Horizon. The singularity constitutes the centre of a black hole and is hidden by the object's 'surface,' the event horizon. Inside the event horizon the escape velocity (i.e., the velocity required for matter to escape from the gravitational field of a cosmic object) exceeds the speed of light, so that not even rays of light can escape into space.
The song 'Under The Gun' was written for a movie to appear on the soundtrack. Due to some unforeseen difficulties it was not to be. It was released as a single in 1993. Do you know which film we talk about? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
The Crow. This is the movie in which Brandon Lee died during production. He died 'under a gun' that was accidentally loaded with real ammunition...
Comfortably Numb. Often played as a medley together with 'Some Kind Of Stranger'...
In their early days they wrote a song that, performed live, was a big feast, because it contained the phrases '(we are) the Sisters of Mercy...' and 'we knew the words, we knew the score, we knew what we were fighting for'. Which song made a beautiful sing-along story? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Adrenochrome . Often played as a medley with 'Teachers' in the early days.
Story goes that one of the slowest Sisters' songs resulted from a letter Andrew got from a fan, named 'Isabelle'. The song is performed with the piano as main instrument. What is the name of this slow one? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
1959. 1959 was the year she was born.
The Sisters of Mercy can't complain about their female guest vocals. Who doesn't like the vocals of Offra Haza on the 'Temple Of Love' remix for instance? Also Terri Nunn has sung along with Andrew -- on which song? | For Ultimate Sisters Of Mercy Fans
|
Under the Gun. The voice on 'This Corrosion' is from Patricia Morrison, who was in the Sisters' line-up for the 'Floodland' LP. The other two songs featured Maggie Reilly, who you might know from her duet with Mike Oldfield ('Moonlight Shadow').
3. Of course you have the song 'Marian'. Then you have 'Bury Me Deep' where she's mentioned. And, I admit this isn't easy at all, there is the demo song 'Red Skies Disappear' (the music from the later 'First and Last and Always' song combined with some lyrics about a girl called Marian). I hope you enjoyed the quiz !
The biggest hit of this group is probably 'The Temple Of Love', which appeared in October 1983. In 1992 the same song was re-recorded with guest vocals of Offra Haza. Another huge hit from the end of 1982 named 'Alice' has also been re-recorded in the 90's. True or false? | For Sisters Of Mercy Diehards
|
true . Sad but true. In 1993 a new version of 'Alice' appeared on the 'Under The Gun' single. The original version is much better, if you ask me...
'Trip the Light Fantastic'. All these are Tour names. 'Tune in, ...' is from 1985, 'Distance...' is from 1997 and 'To the Planet...' is from 1999.
Lyrics anyone? We'll start of with an easy one: 'In a sea of faces, in a sea of doubt. In this cruel place your voice above the maelstrom...' is the opening line from which song? | For Sisters Of Mercy Diehards
|
'Marian'. In this song, singer Andrew Eldritch shows he's a polyglot by singing part of the song in German. Who is this girl anyway, she has made a huge impact on him, that's for sure...
Lyrics: a bit tougher. From which song is this chorus: 'See them shimmy see them go. See their painted faces glow. Slow slow quick quick slow. See those pagans go go go '? | For Sisters Of Mercy Diehards
|
'Floorshow'. I love the little dance instruction, seems someone is waltzing away here :-)
Cover versions. On the 'Temple Of Love' 12-inch appeared 'Gimme Shelter'. Who were the original performers of this song? | For Sisters Of Mercy Diehards
|
The Rolling Stones . Allthough they changed the lyrics very slightly. In the original sentence 'love's just a kiss away and war is just a shot away' the position of the words 'love' and 'war' are changed.
Cover versions, but a bit tougher. The tour of 1997 saw the birth of a new cover version. This time a song from Kylie Minogue was brilliantly sung by the Sisters Of Mercy, much to the delight of the audiences. Name of the song? | For Sisters Of Mercy Diehards
|
'Confide in Me'. Maybe you guessed 'The Wild Rose'? This was a duet of Kylie with Nick Cave and also a quite nice song...
In 1985 they split at the end of the 'Tune in, Turn on, Burn out' tour. Their last concert was in London on 18 June 1985, do you know where ? | For Sisters Of Mercy Diehards
|
The Royal Albert Hall. Actually all these places are in London and they've played them all. The last concert appeared also on a video named 'Wake' and is brilliant.
