New York City Cops. After 9/11 many people thought it was inappropriate to have this song on the album. It was taken off as a mark of respect to the New York City Cops who lost their lives at the twin towers.
Ryan Gentles. Ryan is affectionately known as "the sixth Stroke".
Nikolai and Julian. Nikolai and Julian struck up a friendship at the age of five, at a French school in New York.

Razor Blade. Whilst their first two albums were relatively lo-fi and simple sounding (not a bad thing), their third album was used to demonstrate Julian's great vocal talent, which had rarely been showcased in such a way.

Fab. There had been a spat between Jet and The Strokes, but during the "Big Day Out" in Australia, Albert offered them a cigerette, and they made up.
When I'm stuck in the ground. During the making of this album, lead singer Julian quit drinking, as he felt it inhibited his songwriting.
Squirrel. Many songs on the album talk of Julian's shyness towards the public. The next line is "but you chopped down the tree to get my fur."
Nikolai. This is the only song that Nikolai has co-written. It is said to be about New York based musician Aaron Wilkinson who tragically died in 2003.
14. This is by far their longest album. The total length is more than their first two albums put together.
Your eyes are grey. "Red Light" was written after Julian got stoned and went to see an opera.
David Kahne. Although The Strokes were keen to work with Gordon Raphael for a third time (he produced their first two albums, "Is This It" and "Room on Fire", they settled for David Kahne who has also produced The Bangles!
Ask Me Anything. "Ask Me Anything" only uses Julian's vocals and Nick's organ. It is their first track ever (on an album) to not use guitars, and is the only song on any of their albums that is co-written by Nick Valensi.
Juicebox. The video featured comedian David Cross as an obnoxious radio DJ. He referred to The Strokes as "Stroke" and Juicebox as "Juicy juice".
Some people think they're always right. The first track of the album is "You Only Live Once". It is one of my favourite ever Strokes tracks. The other lyrics are from "Modern Age", "Juicebox" and "Red Light".
Nick Valensi. Nick was born on January 16, 1981. Fab was born on June 2, 1980. Niko was born on November 13, 1978. Albert was born on 9 April 1979.
Nick's. Nick has two sisters - Celine and Danielle. Celine appeared in the video for "Juicebox".
Courtney Love. The song "But, Julian, I'm a Little Older Than You" appears on Courtney's album "America's Sweetheart". He's simply irresistable to everyone!

When it Started. The original album was set to release with an anti-police song "New York City Cops", but because the release was set briefly after the September 11th attacks in 2001, the band decided to replace "NY City Cops" with "When It Started" for the USA release.

NY City Cops. They decided to release the USA version of the debut album with "When It Started" instead of the original "NY City Cops". But "NY City Cops" remains one of the band's most popular hits in Europe.
