Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information

    Stryper

How does Robert play his drums?Stryper

sideways. I do not know the reason why Robert does this, but I have seen Stryper live and he plays with his side towards the audience. You can also see him playing like this in the videos they make.

What album caused Stryper controversy and heat from the critics?Stryper

Against the Law. "Against the Law" was another favorite of mine, but this album caused some critics to look at Styper in a different view because they looked all grungy and unkept as opposed to all the make-up and flashy clothes they wore on previous albums. They also had more secular/commercial music and seemed to be straying from the Christian based songs. To me, they were just broadening their horizons, but to some people, it was the self-destruction of the band.

What are the colors of Stryper?Stryper

Yellow and Black. Yellow and black, just like thier first album, "The Yellow and Black Attrack". Why they chose these colors, I do not know.

    Who managed the group?Stryper

Mike and Rob's mom. Mrs. Sweet was the manager of Stryper. I must say, she did a fantastic job! Mike said he and Robert grew up in a very musical family.

Besides playing drums, what else does Robert say he does for the band?Stryper

Visual timekeeper. In all the albums, Robert puts 'visual timekeeper' along with his credits as the drummer. That means he is in charge of keeping the band all in key, which makes sense seeing that he is the drummer and all of the songs' timing relies on his drumbeats and timing.

Who are brothers in the group?Stryper

Michael and Robert. The Sweet brothers are Michael and Robert. Mike plays guitar and sings, and Robert is the drummer.

According to Michael Sweet in an interview he did once, Stryper is an acronym for what?Stryper

Salvation Through Redemption Yielding Peace Encouragement and Rightesness. Mike made that comment in a concert video. I believe it was "Live From Japan".

Does that famous scripture say this: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquitities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed"?Stryper

Yes. Like Michael Sweet said once in an interview, "By his stripes we are healed."

What is the famous scripture that Stryper uses?Stryper

Isaiah 53:5. They put that scripture on all of the albums. You can find it right under the band's name.

What is Stryper's official biography named? All Things Stryper

Loud N' Clear. The biography is named "Loud N' Clear" after the song of the same name. It takes a very in depth look at the worlds best know Christian metal band. The book pulls no punches and shows some of the not so nice facts about the band. It was out of print for many years. The band has just re-released the book with some add on chapters to cover the new years.

Before Oz Fox joined the band, which soon to be famous guitarist played with them? All Things Stryper

      C. C. DeVille. While I'm sure this may blow most people's minds, no mater who the answer is. Well, that guitarist is no other than Poison's ax man C. C. DeVille! Yes it's true, C.C. played with them back in the Roxx years, though he was not an official member of the band. The other three guitarists play(ed) in bands that have toured with Stryper at one point or another. C. C.'s band Poison often shared the bill with Stryper back in the L. A. club scene days.

Is it true that the album "Reborn", on it's original release, had tracks out of order? All Things Stryper

Yes. Songs 7-9 are played on the album in a different order than the one stated on the cover artwork. This made the original release an automatic collectors item. Big 3 records did a re-release shortly after.

Where did Stryper originate from? All Things Stryper

Orange County, California. Michael, Robert Sweet and Oz Fox are all from California. Tim Gaines was born in Portland, Oregon.

Although Stryper has done many re-released or special limited edition albums, this one album was released with two different album covers plus another variation as well. It was very hard to find this version of this album, so much so that many fans thought this cover had been banned. What album is it?All Things Stryper

To Hell with the Devil. "To Hell with the Devil" had three versions of the album. The common all black cover with red lettering of "To Hell with the Devil", and the art photo cover portraying the band members as angels casting a semi-disguised devil back into hell. There was an even rarer version of this album cover as a numbered picture disk. Many fans assume because the "angel" cover, as it is referred too by most, was banned as being to controversial of a cover. There is no truth to it being banned it was just limited. Matter of fact, it saw world-wide release of this cover. Some of my prized collectible Stryper items are foreign releases of the "angel" cover of "To Hell with the Devil" as well as the before mentioned picture disk.

What year did Stryper finally release music from their Roxx Regime days? All Things Stryper

2007. The album "The Roxx Regime Demo" was released July, 10th 2007. It contained songs that went on to be Stryper hits. The sole exception is a demo version of the Stryper smash hit "Honestly" which was recorded once they were Stryper.

On their album "In God We Trust", the band produced a massive hit for MTV. What is this song? All Things Stryper

Always There For You. "Always There For You" was a big hit on MTV but only reached number 71 on the American pop charts. "I Believe in You" made it only to number 88. The other two songs, while on the album, were never singles. The only other single from the album was "Keep the Fire Burning". The song never charted at all.

Which original member of Stryper did not participate in the recording of the album "To Hell with the Devil"?All Things Stryper

Tim Gaines. Tim left the band for a short time following the "Soldiers Under Command" tour (if you study Stryper history you will see Mr. Gaines does this several times). All the bass playing duties where done by Brad Cobb. Unsure of Tim's intentions, the band hired a new bass player named Matt Hurich. Matt remained in the band for around a month. When the band was having promo photos taken for the up coming tour, Tim decided to rejoin the band. Brad Cobb would be used by the band again for the "In God We Trust" album as Tim would once again leave the band. Not participating in the recording process again, but returning to tour.

Arguably Stryper's most successful album is "To Hell with the Devil". It spawned many hits. What two hits where hugely popular on MTV?All Things Stryper

"Free" and "Honestly". Stryper hold the honor of being the first Christian band on MTV. While "Free", Calling on You" and "Honestly" all had videos "Free" and "Honestly" were huge hits for MTV in 1987. Sadly "To Hell with the Devil" never was made into a single and never had a video.

What is the name of the bands first EP?All Things Stryper

The Yellow and Black Attack. "The Yellow and Black Attack" is the original Stryper EP album released. It was not a full LP and had a limited release around 20,000 albums produced. It would be re-issued in 1986 after their second album sold well. The re-issue had two additional songs added, "Reason for the Season" and "My Love I'll Always Show". The other albums are all Stryper record titles.

Who was the last of the original four members of Stryper to join the band? All Things Stryper

Tim Gaines. Tim was the last of the original members to join the band while it was Roxx Regime. Oz was the second to last to join the band. Brothers Michael and Robert where the founding members.

What is the original name of the band that became Stryper? All Things Stryper

Roxx Regime. The band that would be Stryper started out as Roxx Regime. The band name changed shortly after Tim Gaines joined. It was a name that they were recording under, Robert Sweet suggested the permanent name change.
