Traveling Wilburys
Which Wilbury song was supposed to be the B-side to George Harrison's "Cloud Nine" single "Got My Mind Set On You"? | Traveling Wilburys
|
Handle With Care. George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison, all contributed verses to "Handle With Care" which was to be the B-side. The record company rejected it as a B-side because they felt that the song was "too good to throw away," and thus the first steps to "Volume 1" began. "That's What It Takes" and "Zig Zag" took the place as the B-side, depending on what country released the single.
Which two songs make references to guitar maintenance because of the titles? | Traveling Wilburys
|
"Cool Dry Place" and "Handle With Care". To keep your guitar in shape you need to handle it with care and store it in a cool dry place so that moisture doesn't get to it.
End Of The Line. "End of the Line" takes place on a train. The four surviving Wilburys take turns singing their parts and when Roy's turn comes up (after Tom sings "maybe somewhere when somebody plays Purple Haze") the train enters a tunnel and the lights dim. If you remember the video, next to Tom is a picture frame with Roy's photo in it, possibly from a photo shoot for his "Mystery Girl" album and a rocking chair with his guitar is between Jeff and Bob.
Who is the only surviving Wilbury (and still touring) that has incorporated "Handle With Care" into his play list? | Traveling Wilburys
|
Tom Petty. Tom performed "Handle With Care" at "The Concert For George" along with his band the Heartbreakers, Jeff, and Dhani Harrison in 2002 and has also put the song into his tour playlists. It was also one of two songs that he, Jeff Lynne, and Dhani played for George's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction as a solo artist.
What guitar company created the Traveling Wilburys model guitar that George plays in the music video for "Handle With Care"? | Traveling Wilburys
|
Gretsch. Gretsch created 3 different model guitars, all differing because of the pickup and electronics set ups.
In the music video for "End Of The Line" what kind of train engine is pulling the car that the Wilburys are in? | Traveling Wilburys
|
steam engine. Towards the last minute of the song, after the train leaves the tunnel, you catch an outside glimpse of the train passing by and pulling the cars is an old fashioned steam engine.
Been beat up and battered around. George singing the verses of the great first single off 'Volume 1': 'Handle with Care.'
Jeff Lynne. George, Roy, and Tom chime in for the "twisted, shaken," and "rattled" in the chorus.
She smiled and pulled out a knife. Part of the bridge as sung by Roy.
Wilbury Twist. "Ain't ever been nothin' quite like this - It's a magical thing called The Wilbury Twist" George goes on to sing after that.
Line. George, Jeff, and Roy alternatively sing lead vocals with the "It's all right" verses in this massive hit, while Tom takes over for the chorus.
Not Alone Anymore. The backing-vocals during Roy's powerful verses.
Bob Dylan. Describing the colour of the grass in 'Inside Out.'
Margarita. One of the more unusual tracks on Volume 1.
Your backyard. "While you're busy sinking birdies, and keeping your scorecard -
The devil's been busy in your back yard."
Tolerable. Yep, those great verses from George again.
Cool Dry Place. "Some have sentimental value that cannot be erased - Go store it in a
cool dry place."
And you can do the same with this quiz - thanks for playing!
This Is Love. George wanted to record a B-side to his Warner Brothers' single 'This Is Love'. His co-writer, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison went round to Bob Dylan's Malibu studio to record the track. George had left his guitar at Tom Petty's house, so the Traveling Wilburys (American spelling suggested by Jeff Lynne as the Americans outnumbered the Brits) were born. The resulting track, 'Handle With Care' was considered far too good to be a B-side filler, so was released as a single, getting to number 21 in the UK singles and number 2 in the US Rock charts. They recorded their first album in a mere 10 days in May 1988. The wrong answers are all George Harrison singles.
Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3. 'Traveling Wilburys Vol.1' was followed by 'Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3' in 1980. The reason for this was given as "George being George". I made up all the wrong answers. In 2007 a box set, 'The Traveling Wilburys Collection', containing both albums and a DVD, was released. It went straight to number one in the UK, and also charted at number 9 in the US Billboard 200.
Roy Orbison. Roy Orbison sadly died in December 1988, so was not on the second album. The video for the Vol.1 song 'End of the Line', shows a rocking chair and Roy Orbison's guitar as a tribute over his vocals.
In 1990, an album was released for the Romanian Angel Appeal, to benefit orphans of that country. What single, also the name of the album, did The Traveling Wilburys record for it? | The Story of The Traveling Wilburys
|
Nobody's Child. All the named tracks come from the album. 'With a Little Help from my Friends' (also released as a single) was recorded by another former Beatle, Ringo Starr, and his 'All-Starr Band' (consisting of Ringo, Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren, Billy Preston, Dr. John, Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Jim Keltner, Clarence Clemons and Ringo's son Zak Starkey). 'Homeward Bound' was George Harrison (again!) and Paul Simon and 'Medicine Man' was Elton John.
As part of the joke, The Traveling Wilburys all assumed identities as the fictitious sons of the equally fictitious Charles Truscott Wilbury, Sr. Which artist was Lucky Wilbury on the first album and Boo Wilbury on the second? | The Story of The Traveling Wilburys
|
Bob Dylan. Tom Petty was Charlie T. Wilbury Jr. on the first album and Muddy Wilbury on the second, George Harrison was Nelson Wilbury and Spike Wilbury and Jeff Lynne was Otis Wilbury and Clayton Wilbury.
The Traveling Wilburys all had musical lives before the group was formed. Which was not a group associated with a member of the The Traveling Wilburys? | The Story of The Traveling Wilburys
|
Genesis. Jeff Lynne was leader of the Electric Light Orchestra, Tom Petty's group was the Heartbreakers and George Harrison was lead guitarist with The Beatles. Genesis was an English rock band whose original lineup was Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Chris Stewart. Phil Collins also played drums with Genesis.
The Trembling Wilburys. The original suggestion was that they should be called The Trembling Wlburys, but Jeff Lynne came up with the name they eventually became.
Where Were You Last Night?. Only three singles were released from the second album. In the US, 'She's My Baby' was the highest charting single, reaching number 2 in the US Rock chart. Interestingly, the Wilbury's second album attained its highest position in the Norwegian chart, reaching number 3, compared with number 11 in the US and number 14 in the UK. 'Where Were You Last Night?' was on the second album, but not released as a single.
Gary Moore. Although all the wrong answers would no doubt have done a great job, the selected one was Gary Moore. Interestingly, Eric Clapton and George Harrison were both married to the same woman, Pattie Boyd.
Which relative of The Traveling Wilburys was credited with overdubs on the previously unreleased tracks 'Maxine' and 'Like A Ship' on The Traveling Wilburys Collection, under the pseudonym, Ayrton Wilbury? | The Story of The Traveling Wilburys
|
Dhani Harrison. Dhani Harrison, who looks eerily like his late father, is also a musician. His name comes from two notes on the Indian music scale.
