Paper Angels. This song is about poor, abused, missing, etc. children and how Jimmy thinks it's our job to help them. Jimmy and his sister, Patricia, were paper angels when they were kids. (A paper angle tree is a Christmas tree where poor children put their name, age and what they want for Christmas on a paper angel so other people can buy them a present when their own parents/guardians are unable to.) This song was written by Jimmy and Don Sampson.

Where You're Going. This song is very much based on Jimmy's life. Nearly everything that happened in the song actually happened to him when he was in college. When he was fifteen, he was put into a juvenile delinquent prison. Later, in college (this is where the song picks up) he tells the guard there about how he had been sentenced there once. He says he likes the message this songs sends because he really believes that what matters is 'where you're going'. It was written by him and Don Sampson.

Kerosene Kid. This is another song based on Jimmy's life. His mother was in and out of jail twice, so Jimmy grew up in a poor family. His mother being in jail and his father leaving them also meant that Jimmy and his sister lived in a lot of different group homes.

Barber. Jimmy was born in Kings Mountain, South Carolina. After he started his singing career, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee.
His mother was in jail twice and his father had abandoned his family when he was a toddler .. At one point, Jimmy was actually just living outside. Soon after he was put into a juvenile jail. Luckily, he was rescued by an older couple who turned his entire life around. They agreed to let him live with them as long as he cut his hair and went to church every Sunday.
Prison Gaurd. He decided to be a prison guard because he said after being in a juvenile jail once, it seemed like something he had experience in.
