Svetlana Khorkina. Svetlana Khorkina was strong throughout the team competition, along with veteran Roza Galiyeva, but due to younger gymnasts making mistakes, the Russian team earned a respectable 2nd place in the team competition. During the all-around, Svetlana fell on her original skill on uneven bars. She then successfully completed this element during the uneven bars final, winning the only gold medal for Russia.
Alexandra Marinescu and Simona Amanar. Alexandra Marinescu successfully qualified into the all-around competition. Along with Simona Amanar, although Amanar was in the top 36, she was also the top four Romanian, which did not allow her to compete.
