Alan Kulwicki
Wisconsin. Alan was born in Greenfield, WI. December 14th 1954.

Phoenix, AZ. After recieving the checkered flag, Alan spun his car around and drove his victory lap the wrong way around the track thus creating what is now known as the Polish victory lap, in memory of Alan.

My Way. From 1988 until 1992 AK racing was Alan's only sponsor until Hooter's jumped on board in 1992.
April 1st, 1993. En route to Bristol Alan's plane crashed. Radar data showed that before reaching the outer marker, the plane slowed in a manner that was consistant with a power reduction, then it entered a steep decent and crashed. Four fatalities including Alan.

Bill Elliott. Elliott ended up second in the Winston Cup points down 10 to Alan, this was the narrowest margin in the sport's history.
Pocono. This was the 13th race of the season on June 14th, 1992.
Quincy's Steakhouse. Car owner Bill Terry only had one car, and two engines, on a shoestring budget!
Underbird. Due to Kulwicki's underdog status, Ford gave the team permission to drop the T in the Thundebird logo on the front of the car!

1986. After running 5 races in 1985, Kulwicki went full time for the 1986 season.
Mighty Mouse. The creators of Mighty Mouse made Kulwicki custom patches with Mighty Mouse wearing an orange and white outfit.
comb. Kulwicki was a stickler for appearance and would not get out of his car untill his hair was combed.
Bristol. Kulwici was flying on the Hooters corperate jet. Dale Earnhardt was flying right behind them and actually saw the plane go down.
Paul Andrews. Paul Andrews, who was also with Kulwicki for his first win, would go on to lead both Jeremy Mayfield and Steve Park to their first wins.
Phoenix. Near the end of the 1988 season, Kulwicki made it to Victory Lane at the 1 mile tri-oval in Phoenix, Arizona.
Polish Victory. Kulwicki got in trouble with NASCAR for performing his backward lap after his first win. Nobody complained 4 years later when he did it again after winning the championship.
gold plated comb. A spoof on Kulwicki's ritual of combing his hair before exiting the car.
My Way. 'My Way' was chosen because Kulwicki refused to join an established team in order to own and operate his own.

Atlanta. He won it on Nov, 7, 1992, at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the Hooters' 500. He came from 278 points behind in the final six races to take the championship from Bill Elliott by 10 points because he picked up 10 bonus points for leading the most laps.
The Underbird. He called it the Underbird because he was understaffed, underfunded, and under appreciated. The AK team got permission from Ford to drop the T-H from Thunderbird on the front spoiler.

An electrical short burned up his trailer and truck. Kulwicki had sold most of his belongings to make this trip, and an electrical short did indeed burn up his truck, trailer, and his remaining belongings.
Phoenix. It was in his 85th start in the Checker 500 in Phoenix, AZ, in 1988. He drove his victory lap in the wrong direction to the delight of his loyal fans.
Junior Johnson. In 1991, Kulwicki turned Johnson down. The very next year in 1992, he beat Johnson's driver, Bill Elliott, to become the Winston Cup Champion!
