Powerade. Andy appeared in a TV ad for Powerade sports drink. In the ad, Andy appears to be playing a match in which he just received a bad line call. Upset with the call, he takes his frustration out on his next serve which is so hard that it sends the ball right into the ground of the clay court he's playing on. Some wondered whether this was an actual match, and if Andy actually served the ball into the ground. The answer is no. It was all setup specifically for the commercial, and the ball being served into the ground was done with special effects.

21-19. Andy defeated Younes El Aynaoui 4-6, 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4, 21-19, making it the longest fifth set (by games) in Grand Slam tennis history. The match lasted just one minute short of five hours, and marked Andy's first time advancing to the semifinals of a Grand Slam.
Clay. Playing in just his 10th professional level tournament, Andy won his first ATP title in Atlanta, GA, then followed up the win with a second title in Houston, TX the week after. Both events were played on clay, making Andy the first American to win back-to-back clay court titles since Jim Courier did it in 1992.
Harsh Mankad. Andy made his Davis Cup debut defeating Switzerland's George Bastl in a dead rubber, but Andy's first ever live Davis Cup match came when he defeated Harsh Mankad in the India vs. USA 2001 tie in Winston Salem, North Carolina. The USA won that tie 4-1, and went on to reach the semifinal round where they lost to France. Andy went 7-0 undefeated in Davis Cup play until that semifinal meeting with France where he lost both of his singles matches.
Miami. The first Tennis Masters Series event Andy played was in Miami. That tournament also happens to be the location of Andy's very first professional match win. He defeated Fernando Vicente 6-4, 6-0 in the first round before losing in the next round to Andre Agassi in straight sets.
