Let's say you are playing another person in a singles match. He sets you up, and you start to smash from mid-court. The shuttle goes through his court, bounces off him, and lands outside the boundaries. Is the play called in or out? | Badminton Rules and Regulations
In. Hitting the shuttle with your body is just like hitting it with the racket (save the distance). If he tries to return it, you can just let it drop and get a point, since double hits aren't allowed.
Suppose you are playing on an indoor court, just rallying with a partner. You get the shuttle popped up to you high in the air. When you go to return it, it soars high, hits the roof, and lands on your partners side. In a real badminton game, would this play be legal? | Badminton Rules and Regulations
No. Making the shuttle hit the roof is just like hitting it outside the boundaries. The play would be called out.
You are playing a game of doubles with another team. You started off the game serving. Let's say that the score is at 8-5, in favor of you. From your field of vision, where on the court will you serve from and to? | Badminton Rules and Regulations
Serve from your right court across to the left. The person that serves first always serves from specific sides. In this case, his "even" side (where he serves when the score for them is even) is on the right where his "odd" side (where he serves when the score is odd) is on the left. For their partner it is the exact opposite. Also, you must always serve across to the other side of the court (right to left, left to right).
You are playing another game of singles. Your opponent recovers a smash by popping it up high in the air, but close to the net. As you go to smash it down his throat, your racket accidentally hits the net. What play is called? | Badminton Rules and Regulations
The play is stopped. Pretty straight forward - you are not allowed to hit the net. If you do, the play will be stopped and your opponent will either gain a point (if it is his serve) or you will lose the serve (if it is your serve).
You are set up for a nice smash opportunity. As you put all your energy into it, you watch as it flies down across your opponents court. The shuttle looks like it has gone out, but a fraction of the head has touched the line. Afterwards, the shuttle bounces completely clear of the court. Is this considered in or out? | Badminton Rules and Regulations
In. The boundary lines don't end until the edge of the line stops. If any part of the shuttle touches the line, it will be called "in".
You are playing yet another game of singles. Your opponent smashes, and you return the shuttle with a drop shot. Your opponent returns the shuttle by popping it high up beside the net. As you go for the greatest smash of all-time, your racket goes over the net a bit into your opponents court. What is the common name for this foul? | Badminton Rules and Regulations
Reach. Reaching isn't allowed because it would never let the opponent return the shuttle.
Mixed Match . Combining guys and girls creates a mixed pair. The same is true with badminton, as a guy and girl partnered together are considered a mixed team.
The play continues as it normally would. A player falling down is a misjudge of balance, which is a part of being a good badminton player.
