 Baltimore Orioles
1954. The Orioles started their team era in 1954, after the franchise being the St.Louis Browns. They were the Browns for 52 years. The Orioles began their era, with a 54-100 season record under the management of Jimmy Dykes.
Brady Anderson. Anderson smacked 50 in 1996, and helped the Orioles to an American League Championship game against the Yankees, but only in a loss. 1996 would be the only season in his career that he hit more than 25 home runs in a season. No other player listed reached the 50 plateau.
Memorial Stadium. Memorial Stadium in 1954, saw the fan attendance more than triple compared to the year before as the Browns, breaking the 1,000,000 attendance mark for the first time in franchise history. The previous year as the Browns, the franchise played in Sportsmans Park.
1966. Their first appearance was in 1966 and they made it count, with a 4 game to 0 skunking of the heavily favored Los Angeles Dodgers. The Orioles were led by Frank and Brooks Robinson (not related), Paul Blair, and Boog Powell. Their arms were even greater in the likes of Jim Palmer, Dave McNally, and Steve Barber. This great pitching staff shutout the National League Champions 3 out of the 4 World Series games.
Steve Barber. Barber went 20-13 in 1963, McNally won 22 games against 10 losses in 1968, and it would be the only time in his career that McNally broke the 200 strikeout barrier. The Orioles finished 2nd in the American League. Cuellar won 23 in 1969, McNally and Cuellar won 24 each in 1970. Palmer won 22 in 1973.
1969. In this year of the Orioles, they broke the 100-win mark with a record of 109-53, winning the American League pennant, before just over 1 million fans in attendance. However, even with an All-Star roster of Brooks Robinson, Paul Blair, Boog Powell, Frank Robinson, Davey Johnson, and Don Buford, they team just could not topple the amazing Mets, in a 4 games to 1 loss in the World Series.
